Knowing that someone sitting next to you could have a gun on them would make me feel more unsafe. Carrying guns around is not the answer.

  • You state that you fear guns because people have been raped & mugged, yet the rapers & muggers carry weapons regardless of gun free zone policies. We are not talking about allowing criminals to have guns - they already have them. We're talking about allowing law abiding citizens, including women, to continue carrying their concealed weapon when they walk onto campus. Each person should be free to choose how they want to be prepared to defend themselves if at all. This is an issue of freedom, and the basic human right to defend yourself with the common tool of the day. If this were the age before guns were invented we'd be talking about carrying swords or a bow & arrow, but today the common tool of self defense is the handgun.

Don't worry, you will still be able to feel just as safe out of a gun free zone as you currently feel in a gun free zone - concealed carry means you won't know the gun is there, just like you already have no idea when criminals walk onto campus carrying their illegal concealed weapon that they're not even allowed to own due to their felon status, much less carry in a gun free zone.

That doesn't even include all of the law abiding concealed carry folks you walk by or sit next to while off campus on a daily basis without even realizing it. Your best friend could be carrying a weapon on a daily basis & you wouldn't even know it. Concealed means just what it says - concealed. It isn't the law abiding concealed carriers that you should worry about - it's the criminals who ignore the laws that are the problem, not the law abiding.

  • Oh please. Give people the choice not to be helpless. Let's not use your "feelings" as the barometer to set safety and liberty.

CCLs isn't about students carry guns. It's about adults having a choice that makes EVERYONE safer, whether they FEEL it or not.

Campus shooters following laws very well? Think more laws might help? Or not so much? The only way to thwart these monsters is to complicate their plan and let humans enjoy their right to personal protection.

OK, hope this wasn't too harsh. Here's to a terrific and safe semester!

  • How you feel is completely irrelevant. Emotions are not based on logic, or facts.

Areas that have a high number of people who carry a concealed weapon are considerably safer than areas where people can't carry.

Again, you state that guns are not the answer. Eventually you will realize how such a statement completely lacks any basis whatsoever.

I feel bad for the young lady in this video. If she feels so unsafe being in close proximity to law abiding citizens who are approved by all levels of law enforcement to carry a concealed weapon, I wonder what she'd do in the presence of someone that actually poses a threat to society.

I hate to say it, but it sounds like she lives in a small bubble. She refers to the area off campus as "the real world," yet she fails to realize that the reality we all live in is not governed by her emotional response to something.

Emotional response are founded on logic, and thus have no bearing on the discussion at hand.

Campus grounds are no sacred and devoid of criminals with malicious intent. If she won't take responsibility for her own safety, nobody else is going to.
