SANTIAGO, Chile - Melting ice in southern Chile caused a glacial lake to swell and then empty suddenly, sending a "tsunami" rolling through a river, a scientist said Thursday. No one was injured in the remote region.
Glacier scientist Gino Casassa said the melting of the Colonia glacier, which he blamed on rising world temperatures, filled the Cachet Lake and increased pressure on the ice sheet.
The water bored a 5-mile tunnel through the glacier and finally emptied into the Baker River on April 6.
"The remarkable thing is that the mass of water moved against the current of the river," Casassa told The Associated Press by telephone from the Center for Scientific Studies in the southern city of Valdivia. "It was a real river tsunami."

The Age Of Warming: 60 Minutes goes to Patagonia and Antarctica. This is a very good video everyone should watch.

More cold hard proof. Unfortunately we're just going to watch it be ignored.

The Independent reported in January of 2006 that we are past the point of no return in terms of climate change... Is the evidence staring us in the face all over the world?

Yes, phillyharper, it is. However, as this CBS report indicated, scientists are urging us to cut our current greenhouse gas emissions in order to avoid all out catastrophe. I do not believe that we can eliminate all of the effects of climate change as they are already in motion because we as a whole didn't listen to good people like Al Gore thirty years ago, but we must listen now in order to minimize the catastrophic effects our children and their children will now see.
There is no more time to debate this, we have to take action now and the U.S. government HAS TO WAKE UP. Sorry for the caps there, but they really piss me off... even these candidates with their milquetoast climate change plans only designed to make them look like they care and have that urgency while they still give industry and corporate interests another FORTY TWO YEARS to get emissions down. We don't have that long to wait. Simple as that.-

This latest developement reminded me of a conversation with my mom, not too long ago. I asked her if God plans to wipe out humanity. She sighed saying, "I doubt it. God will, most likely, sit back and let us do ourselves in." I asked if she meant by war. "Maybe. We'll probably ruin the environment and kill ourselves off in the process while waring. God will say that humanity caused the problems and didn't do enough to alter the consequences of their actions. It will be a global suicide and we will all end up in Hell. God will turn his back on us in disgust and move on to something better."
I'll never forget that talk. The idea of God giving up on us was more than enough to motivate me in fighting the "raping" of the environment.
Anyone, at this point, who still doesn't believe that we are digging our own graves has a fool in charge of their destiny. -
I really don't think people truly believe global warming isn't happening. I think we are simply up against people who make lots and lots of money doing the things we have to stop doing... say burning oil for energy. Once we stop electing oilmen to office and start telling our American automakers that we won't buy their cars unless they start making alternative energy vehicles we will all be better off.

Check out the report and pictures from National Geographic.

For all those skeptics out there, here's hard unforgiving evidence that global warming is occurring, if you were dumb enough to not believe it before now.

The power of nature never ceases to amaze me! We think we are the most powerful creatures on the earth with all the horrible weapons we can create and all the destruction we can cause- but in the end we will not be our own downfall; it seems in the end, nature can take care of itself quite well, even if that means wiping us off the face of the earth.

Revelation 11:18 says, “The nations raged, but thy day of retribution has come. Now is the time for the dead to be judged; now is the time for recompense to thy servants the prophets, to the dedicated people, and all who honor thy name, both great and small, the time to destroy those who destroy the earth.”
We are told the earth will be destroyed to some degree. However, paradise will eventually be restored on earth. -
Religion cannot save our future. People with money can. Diamonds, gold, food, oil (everything) comes from mother earth and it produces money. If money was not the motivation.
Water is life and global warming is real. El Rio de Esmeraldas in Ecuador is also drying off. -
People with money are the problem. Religion has put away the divine law and substituted man's religion instead. The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof. At the appointed time, there will be a change in power on the earth. Only then will mother earth be "saved".
