What could be more refreshing than casting off your carbon shackles with a bunch of solar balloons? Our favorite environmental architect visionary, Joseph Cory, of Geotectura has seized this dream with an award winning way to take solar energy to the skies. He’s teamed up with Technion aerospace engineer Dr. Pini Gurfil to develop an an array of helium filled platforms constructed from a new fabric coated with photovoltaic solar cells. Dubbed Sunhope, the project is showing great promise as a low-cost deployable system that would harness solar energy while maintaining a minuscule environmental footprint.

Fantastic! Now take away the tax breaks from big oil and put the new revenue into projects like this!
Thank you for sharing this. -
i love it, not only is it a great energy source, it looks pretty damn cool too

Yes there are exciting and simple solutions once our shackles are released from our insane dictator...
They are beautiful!
I remember that my father who was 90 when he passed away told me that when electric cars came out ...I think at the turn of last century, that the person who was developing them was killed...something like that...I'll try to Google that.-

Much better idea to invest in this rather than big oil. So nice to look at, too. I am impressed!
-
ooh pretty! I want some in my backyard!
-
These are fascinating, but do they retract during hurricane season?
-
man.
think about ALL THE SUN. and ALL THE WIND.
There's so much of it, just offering itself to us.
Somewhere we went wrong. I hope we can make it right in time to see a very imaginable sustainable future. -
That design is great: this way a great amount of energy can be harnessed from the sun without covering up mass amounts of land. I hope to see this soon!

Why is it that so much green infrastructure is also aestheticaly pleasing. It's so contrary to our current model with vile plumes of gas emited from corroding concrete pillars in factories and power plants It's as if the two models couldn't be more at odds in thier impact and apearance.

right on Ocanada.
I remember it being said on TV just a couple months ago that the trade-off for coastal wind turbines is the "eye-sore" it would cause.
you gotta be kidding me, says WHO?? Wind turbines are beautiful !! Beats the hell out of vertical cannons shooting shit into the sky.-

Regarding your concern about hurricanes Chique I wonder if they might be able to be raised just above the levels in the atmosphere where that would be a problem...it would need a long cable but perhaps some of those Bucky Ball Carbon Cables would do well here.
As far as aesthetics are concerned I think we need to make reasonable efforts that our natural resources are not harmed but that our target now is to get ourselves off of oil. As King W says the US is addicted to oil...I wonder why.-

its a good idea, and the enviromental benefits are obviously something to be proud of, but how practical is it? imagine a whole neighborhood with those? you know some kid with something to prove will just pop them!
-
They look beautiful! I hope too see some of these in the near future.
-
I also like Wind turbines alot. I cannot imagine why someone is stating the contrary as a common-sense fact.
Always beware of common-sense facts, they're often just false paradigms ... -
i'm wondering as to the cost effectiveness of it. convert to solar panels and the cost alone doesn't pay for itself for 20-30 years
-
Wind turbines should be attached to the cable and balloons. This way we can harness both solar power and the high speed winds of the upper atmosphere.

i HATE the stupid robot voice over on current news its making me turn over to another channel

What a wonderful idea and vision of what the future might hold. Functional art at it's best!
-
alman365 , or put graffiti on those things. I wonder how one would go about doing that though.

I want one. When will Walmart start selling those?
-
How exciting! Solar technology literally advances by leaps and bounds every day!
