Nojoud Muhammed Nasser arrived at court by herself on Wednesday, April 2, looking for a judge to handle her case against her father, Muhammed Nasser, who forced her two months ago to marry Faez Ali Thamer, a man 22 years her senior. The child also asked for a divorce, accusing her husband of sexual and domestic abuse.
“My father beat me and told me that I must marry this man, and if I did not, I would be raped and no law and no sheikh in this country would help me. I refused but I couldn’t stop the marriage,” Nojoud Nasser told the Yemen Times. “I asked and begged my mother, father, and aunt to help me to get divorced. They answered, ‘We can do nothing. If you want you can go to court by yourself.’ So this is what I have done,” she said.

LaWingman: The are no limits on a child's mind or maturity. It all depends on their upbringing. Obviously, if a child is forced into mature situations, he/she will have to learn how to deal with them.

Wow, this is where arranged marriage really bugs me: stuff like this happens. I recognize that it is a cultural thing and there's no stopping that, but there should be a stop to something as extreme and disgusting as this.

I don't care about the culture of any country out here that insist that an 8 year old marry a 30 year old man. That is child molestation. This kid has just left 7 years old. She hasn't reached puberty yet, what can she do with or for this child molester.

She faced being bannished for life from her family to do something about her plight and had the legal means to do so at 8 years of age. Only in America.
