Leave the Olympics alone. Think of the sacrifices from all of the athletes, their families and supporters of years of time and money. The Olympics should be neutral and non-political. This is the only global event where all nations can participate in a peaceful event. We need these Games to be left alone and be sacred. Separate from all politics!

LOL... too late... anyone with any forethought knew this was going to happen in 2001 when the IOC foolishly determined China worthy of the olympics....
-
The only people who might prevent the athletes from competing are China (who said any athlete who shows support for Tibet won't be allowed to compete or their medals revoked) and the athlete them self (for doing so) and it isn't the first time either. I recall a couple of athletes that had to return their medals for raising a fist during the national anthem. The olympics aren't void of politics they never have been. The Olympics are the catalyst to get your cause on the six o'clock news and it most certainly has done that for Tibet. Nobody is suggesting the games be boycotted just the opening ceremony. Now really, what's so bad about that?
P.S. The tradition of olympic torch was started 1936 by one Adolf Hitler so the olympic games could represent something beyond political opinion. Just something to think about. -
But the intent of the Olympic Games started with, what the Ancient Greeks. The theme of the Olympics is Sports from all over the globe. This is a peaceful setting. It has no place for political infighting. This hurts the Games and the opportunity for all athletes to come. Maybe China does not want to have the games disrupted by political demonstrating because it fears bigger trouble which could harm athletes. Most of us disagree with China policies. And most of us agree with many Non-Free Nations. But let us leave the Olympics and the Athletes to the task of sports and years of accomplishment. Thank you for your commenting!
