A hand-made bomb exploded after evening prayers Saturday at a mosque in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz, and Iran's state-run television reported nine dead and 105 wounded.
The blast and subsequent fire happened about 6 p.m. in the men's section of the mosque while a cleric was addressing the worshippers, according to the Fars news agency.
The sermon denounced Bahai and Wahabi faiths, both of which are considered heresies by some Shiites.
The explosion blew out windows in several nearby houses, the official Islamic Republic News Agency reported. Buildings shook more than half a mile away, The Associated Press reported, citing local media accounts.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack yet...and it's a pretty big deal, since bombings don't happen in Iran all that often - the most recent one was more than a year ago, in February of '07.
I don't like the thought of violence breaking out in Iran. There is enough instability in the region as it is. -
i was taken aback when i saw this story too...not good. can we say initiating a response?
iran doesnt have bombings because its stable. im sure there is some instability elements working there. trying to introduce sunni fighters into iran. that way it provokes iran into a response. thereby allowing the us to attack iran, like it wants to. thing is, and im loving it....the us will lose!
sweet!-

I wonder if this is a sign of violence spilling over the borders or if this is simply another wacko that actually got through. Hopefully the latter based on the fact that no one has claimed responsibility.
-
its probally the spill over with us in iraq the violence goes next door

The official Islamic Republic News Agency offered a conflicting report about the explosion, quoting the governor general of Shiraz who said, "Initial surveys about the cause of the blast have proved there has been no bomb involved in the incident and, therefore, there (are) other probable causes".

There is a possibility this was done simply to create unrest in that country. A precursor to further violence that could lead to international intervention. The Bush administration would love to give the next president a reason to go to Iran, where they can call Halliburton to patch repair another city and Blackwater mercenaries to terrorize more Arab people. Then they could get that free-thinking radical leader out of office and replace him with a puppet dictator.

they did that once there and brought in the SHAH! Thats what brought us to this point in world history now! america never learns! this time, there is a zero-sum game going! there will never be a victory with iran.
americans dont know Shit about history, if they did, they would know that two countries you dont mess with....Afghanistan (the us will never "win" there) and Iran (persia)!!
it is simply retarded to try! the soviets went broke trying to take afghanistan over 10 years. and its taken 20 years to recover from that!
pride is one thing, being mindless cheerleaders is another! should have paid attention in civics class folks!-

"No one has claimed responsibility for the attack yet"
does the CIA usually claim responsibility when they are behind things like this... uhh, no....just another covert public relations venture....not unlike the last fake fiasco--Iran vs. US Navy--only this time people got killed.-

"Some live munitions may have been left behind at that location which could have been the cause of the explosion,"
That's just crazy.-

i hope the iranians come into IRAQ and lay the pimp slap on the bush troops. straight up. planes will get shot down, anti tank munitions are the best, and they know how to use them....it would be a real war! and the us would be JACKED!!!!!!

This smells like the PKO. I recall a pod about them and how they were attacking targets in Iran- Shiraz does sound familiar. We cannot simply blame this on the U.S.; sometimes, as unbelievable as it is, the U.S. isn't responsible. ;^p

naw its the us, or its the us paying them!
