The criticism follows Mr Bush's announcement of a "major strategic shift" that includes suspending troop withdrawals after July. He says this would allow senior commander General David Petraeus to assess the next step in Iraq. But his opponents say the people want answers from this President, now. The decision to halt withdrawals means the US presence in Iraq is likely to last well beyond January 2009, when Mr Bush will leave office and whoever wins the November elections will take over. Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic Speaker of the House, went on to say about the President's announcement: "he is just dragging this out so he can put it at the doorstep of the new president of the United States".
Do you agree or disagree with the speaker's statement? Or do you side with the President?

No matter what decision is made, the war is going to reside end up in the crapper. The results of any decision are not going to prevent this, the results of any decision are just going to determine how badly we are screwed. Bush could and should be able to easily realize this. He, and his administration, have backed us into a very difficult military and political trap. There are no neat, clean or easy solutions. It doesn't matter how smart we are or what we do to escape this trap. When we do make a decision we are going to take damage, period.
Now that Bush has effectively turned the war on terror into a middle east remake of the Vietnam War, he want to hand it off so he doesn't have to take responsibility. He should be very aware that any decision he makes is going to end badly. And though he had the balls to get us into this situation, I don't think he has the balls nor the brains to suck it up and get us out.
It's like a kid that knows it has to remove the band-aid but doesn't want to feel the pain of the bandage coming off of the skin. The only difference is that if Bush keeps successfully putting this off it will become someone else's responsibility and pain.
