This would never show in United State's CNN... I have a feeling this is British which they are in favor of medical marijuana. This proves that the American government LIES
(lmao ) Posted comment on CNN International:
I agree with this comment... that this type of solution is left out of the US media.
No profits for pharmaceuticals...so sad for them.

The item is available on the US edition of CNN's site, although not as prominently, and in the original British version - so I doubt it was aired on the actual TV station. I love the way the reporters were cracking up over cannabis helping with memory - I don't think such a fond portrayal would be shown on US TV news. CarolynGillis, you're absolutely right that big pharma could never hope to make a profit out of cannabis extract - what a shame that more public funding isn't diverted into such a potentially cheap medicine.

thanks for confirming that mischabarrett..it was just a strong suspicion. Yes it is a shame. People are lead to believe that drugs are the only way through clever advertising.
They certainly can do good for society but there might be less intrusive means to be tried first on our elderly and ill.
People are suffering and dying from this ignorance all over the US.-

The medicinal qualities of marijuana are there and the US government knows this, but big pharma and big government would lose too much money, since the Prescription Drugs and incarceration industries would take major hits. So the government would rather see average lose everything, die from diseases or lock them up rather than decriminalize marijuana and continue medical research into it.

CarolynGillis, have you seen the book "The Emperor Wears No Clothes" by Jack Herer? The complete book is available to read online.
http://www.jackherer.com/chapters.html
It is an amazing book, the second half of the book is actual documents of the information given in the front of the book. We have more people in jail in this country than any other country, due to the war on drugs. I think it is an important issue, The War on Drugs tears apart as many families as the drugs themselves. But more to the point, do you realize the qualities of cannabis/hemp.
Hemp can make many things that are now being made from chemicals that are hurting the health of average Americans. Hemp can make clothes, fuel. etc...
The War on Drugs is a war on Americans. It is an important issue. When my sons were in high school, during the height of the War on Drugs, I read the book by Jack Herer, “The Emperor Wears No Clothes”. It is the industrial uses of cannabis/hemp that is keeping it illegal. Corporate American doesn’t want people to know a natural plant can compete with their synthetic products. Plus, you can’t patent a plant! Follow the money! Jack Herer’s book answers the questions, plus documentation.
I saw Jack Herer on a local morning show, 'The Morning Exchange'. I called the station after and asked where I could find the book, they said they had no idea and had no information about the author.
The uses for cannabis/hemp will astound you. Marijuana is a slang term started by Hearst back in the '20's, so people wouldn't realize they were outlawing a widely used plant.
Hemp has so many environmental friendly qualities, it would eliminate many of the things that are now generating profit for large corporations. We can't have that, we have to protect corporations at all costs. Forget the plant, we have corporations to fulfill our needs. -
Thank for the resource Connie I will definitely read it today.
I agree with you.-

Cannabis/Hemp is one of the best kept secrets in America. Millions of our tax dollars have been spent on research and millions have been spent hiding the facts. Mainstream media always counters facts with spin. Facts about potential benefits are spun into 'War on Drugs' propaganda.
-
Connie I love my hemp shirts...kind of expensive probably because it is swimming against a tide of propaganda.

Medicine
From 1842 through the 1890s, extremely strong marijuana (then known as cannabis extractums) and hashish extracts, tinctures and elixirs were routinely the second and third most-used medicines in America for humans (from birth, through childhood, to old age) and in veterinary medicine until the 1920s and longer. (See Chapter 6 on “Medicine,” and Chapter 13 on the “19th Century.”)
Queen Victoria used cannabis resins for her menstrual cramps and PMS. Her reign (1837- 1901) paralleled the enormous growth of the use of Indian cannabis medicine.
As stated earlier, for at least 3,000 years, prior to 1842, widely varying marijuana extracts (buds, leaves, roots, etc.) were the most commonly used and widely accepted medicines in the world for the majority of mankind’s illnesses.
However, in Western Europe, the Roman Catholic Church forbade use of cannabis or any medical treatment, except for alcohol or blood letting, for 1200-plus years. (See Chapter 10 on “Sociology.”)
The U.S. Pharmacopoeia indicated that cannabis should be used for treating such ailments as: fatigue, fits of coughing, rheumatism, asthma, delirium tremens, migraine headaches and the cramps and depressions associated with menstruation. (Professor William EmBoden, Professor of Narcotic Botany, California State University, Northridge.)
Queen Victoria used cannabis resins for her menstrual cramps and PMS, and her reign (1837-1901) paralleled the enormous growth of the use of Indian cannabis medicine in the English-speaking world.
In the 20th century, cannabis research has demonstrated therapeutic value and complete safety in treating many health problems including asthma, glaucoma, nausea, tumors, epilepsy, infection, stress, migraines, anorexia, depression, rheumatism, arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease and herpes. (See Chapter 7, “Therapeutic Uses of Cannabis.”) -

Chapter Two
A Brief Summary of the Uses of Hemp
Our Challenge to the World: Try to Prove Us Wrong
If all fossil fuels and their derivatives, as well as trees for paper and construction were banned in order to save the planet, reverse the Greenhouse Effect and stop deforestation;
Then there is only one known annually renewable natural resource that is capable of providing the overall majority of the world’s paper and textiles; meeting all of the world’s transportation, industrial and home energy needs; simultaneously reducing pollution, rebuilding the soil, and cleaning the atmosphere all at the same time…
And that substance is—the same one that did it all before—
Cannabis Hemp…Marijuana! -
did they (the reporters) actually fail to research short term memory loss? it has been proven countless times that the loss of short term memory is both important in healthy brain activity but as well as in evolution. and what damaging effects to the brain does cannabis cause? i have never heard of any except from proven corrupted reports by government scientists.
-
So its possible that the properties of the drug counteract the alzheimer's supposedly caused by smoking out of aluminum pipes?

It's a weed that grows anywhere with the power of the sun. It is easy to grow and all it needs is water and sun. Because of this, it is not for the interest of corporations.

this is total bull. The US needs to learn what's goin on for the people. If we're happy then i bet they'll be pissed.
-
right iknew.
if we are happy and healthy then they won't make tons of money.
It's simple really:
sickly off balance people on drugs
+ loads of misinformation through the Fox Noise and CNN
= barrels of money for the huge corporate CEO's-

iknew, since when did what the US needs to learn actually matter? One of the problems of being older (53), I've seen the past and fear the future.
One would think we would learn from history, instead we move along. We don't learn?
In the early 90's when I read the book "The Emperor Wear's No Clothes", I was amazed. I thought I had really found some profound information, just waiting to be discovered. Unfortunately, we had a 'Drug Czar'. I don't know about anyone else, but 'CZAR' sends chills down my spine. Back then I thought of it as, 'Silenced in America, by an American Czar'.
It's been 17 years and it's still a taboo subject. When I tried to purchase the book in 1990, a local book store that was reported to carry books on every subject, told me they didn't carry the book, "That's a taboo subject", I was told by the gentleman that answered the phone.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
But, i'm only 'One Lonely Voice'. It would take many, many more voices to make change happen. -
Thats really odd
-
Thank you both for posting this story. This is truly amazing news and it should be published widely and told to all your senior friends.
My father used to be strongly against the use of cannabis, but since he has seen several documentaries about how cannabis is helping hundreds of thousands of people with terminal and long term diseases. He is now convinced that it is some sort of conspiracy that is keeping this life saving medicine from the general public. -
Yeah jubai, it is definately harder for an older generation to capture these ideas of cannabis' postive role as a medicine.. They grew up in a world where marijuana was universally vilified and to many represents a culture that directly opposed many of their beliefs... My dad too had some troubles accepting until he was put on chemotherapy. Like many prescriptions cannabis can be misused but the current law does a tremendous disservice to the millions of Americans who live with AIDS and cancer...

the government knows all about the healing properties that are related to weed. They can't make any real money off of a plant that can be grown anywhere. So, instead of legalizing it, they lock up countless people for having it. It's not the fact that they're doing drugs it's just that they're not doing the governments drugs. Soon after they continue this stupid war on drugs (which makes no sense at all, i mean if im going to make a rule on the banning of drugs i'll make sure ALL drugs are being banned not just the ones which i cannot dictate to gain profit from) very soon the majority of the populace will be serving life terms for a couple of grams of a D@#n plant. I mean you dont see then going down to the hostpital and stopping people from having morphine for extreme pain, or going to rehab and stopping the distribution of methadone to crack addicts. I'm so sick and tired of these commercials from the government saying that weed gives you slow reation time and that weed smokers go and hit people with cars and all these things that sober people do and then just drive away from. You know what people do when they smoke weed? Absolutly nothing except thinking about random things and eating a whole lot of food and trying to cure their seemingly uncureable cotton-mouth. They can say that weed makes us lazy all they want and show us rubber puppets to try and scare us into quitting but we all know that people do this without any drugs in their systems at all, maybe they should ban eating too much food while they're at it to make it even. All i'm saying is weed doesn't cause as many health problems as cigarettees or alcohol ever has, so stop with the BS and make it legal and stop locking people up for life for having it. Now i'm going to roll the fattest blunt ever and try and calm myself down...
Peace... -
not surprising that we would censor this, we are so lame in our media. everything is such bs anymore.

Did you hear about the increase in medications. Health insurance to increase or pay a percentage for a medication. Money is becoming the seperation of health.
Marijuana would be free if it was legal. -
Cannabis would also come with far less warnings on the label. Have you read the warnings on many of the drugs they prescribe today? They read like the drugs could cause as many problems as they help. We'll need to take an additional pill to counter the side effects of the first pill.
