Ohio State Trooper dresses up like KKK

Several Ohio State Troopers were disciplined, following an incident where one trooper dressed up like a KKK member, another photographed him on his cell phone, and another received the cell phone photo and did not report it. The trooper who dressed up claimed he was imitating Dave Chappelle. The photo was taken the day before Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

  • Considering the no-nonsense, authoritarian profiles of most police officers when it comes to joking by those they might have stopped for a minor traffic violation, their story is just about as plausible as 53 or 54 of the stories offered up by a series of Bush press secretaries on why we invaded Iraq.

Unfortunately, many of the psychological stereotypes often seen in "Smokey and the Bandit" type portrayals are too close for comfort excepting the fact that many are far smarter and more clever than the Roscoe P. Coltrain character from Dukes of Hazard notoriety,

Is there any wonder that with a prejudice of this magnitude (almost a given based on the chronological proximity to MLK Day) cannot really be set aside or controlled well enough for it not to be perceived in the way white officers deal with people of color?

I cannot help but think that if I, as a white businessman, can notice it, then how much more does it affect how non-whires interact with or trust the police.

Since the advent of DNA as a forensic tool, we see new revelations every day that make many of us cringe at the number of innocent people who may have been put to death or who have been wrongfully imprisoned.

Sadly, this very type of "locker room" or "good ol' boy" elitism and demonization of entire groups of society permeates both military and law enforcement circles.

  • All I want to say is: this story is fuckkked up.

  • So is this trooper still patroling the roadways of Ohio? I am sure he is driving the roads with white knuckles and pink hands from the light slap he probably recieved. I wonder if he is driving in Yellow Springs, Ohio with his judgemental windshield view profiling those he feels so superior to. I bet Dave Chapelle would like to say a word to this idiot (he lives in Yellow Springs, Ohio). Get this man off the streets! We do not need to allow this degradation to continue! (PS I live in Ohio)

  • Unfortunately it is all to common for any emergency workers, (EMS, Fire Fighters, and Cops) to joke around about all the horrible things they encounter. Admittedly this is going way to far, but it is hardly a reason to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

  • What was that guy thinking! Even if he did mean it as a joke and didn't mean ANYTHING by it, it is just a stupid thing to do. I am glad, however, to see the way this was handled when discovered. They didn't just say hey it was a joke and then get let off the hook. This is how serous problems need to be dealt with; if you did it no matter what reason you have your in trouble.

  • This just proves that cops are still the elitist, racist authoritians that stereotypes make them out to be.

    Shame, shame, shame.

  • power in the name of!!!!! egnatius212...as soon as i read this, i immediately thought of that line!

i dont know about you, but there are only a few things i miss in life..my wife, my fiance from years ago....doth deceased.....

    and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE!!!!!!!

you people act like this isnt common. be a brotha getting pulled over at night..we are petrified usually. especially when officer good day says, boy (cuz thats what they like to call us) you better be glad my friends aint out here with me. they'd have fun with your black ass!

thats why i wonder why those highway snipers dont just shoot at cop cars instead of average commuters.

  • morons...why would you wear the uniform with it...and then let someone take a picture!!!!...were they on the job when this happened?

it is really sad that this is still a very big problem with a lot of public SERVANTS. i hate when they forget that they work for us.
  • Yeah, I'm from Ohio and am not surprised by this at least.
A huge KKK thing in athens ohio and hocking ohio. Not much of one in ohio university itself but it's pretty evident in the surrounding towns.

  • @KeithdaSneit
Honestly? You're going to judge the state of Ohio because of what three troopers did? I'm sure the few residents of Ohio who posted here aren't racist a**holes.

  • At least he's not a British prince dressed up as a Nazi.
    D'oh!
    huntre
  • haha thanks, ipodrulz. Yep, definately not racist.
    at all.
Actually I just spent 5 hours at this diversity/activism conference in cleveland on my saturday- which isn't news.
Only super obvious racist areas, again, are in southern ohio.
Blanket statement; racism is everywhere. and is disgusting anywhere and everywhere.

  • This is why we have so many problems today. Instead of looking at our past and learning from it, we either ignore it or laugh at it. So instead of making changes and reforming the system, we imitate Dave Chapelle and make an idiot of ourself by using crude humor, while we dress up like the kkk so we can put videos on youtube.

  • I'm black and I find it funny because he's so stupid. I don't think any discipline should come, it's hs body, and his buddies phone. I may not agree with what he says or does, but I will defend till my death, his right to say it!~

  • Wow, now there's a good idea.
    slamber
  • Look on the bright side, at least they didn't have hookers smacking their asses at the time eh?
    rabidlemur
  • this is retarded. why do people feel the need to think they r superior to anyone else.
the cops that protect us should especially ot act in such a degrading and ignorant way

  • So does anyone still want to say racial profiling doesn't exist? Worse part is these are State Boys not you local yokles. I tell people I don't dislike cops, I don't trust them! There's a difference. I support people acting a fool and they only lose my respect when they get caught in the act and back peddle/side step the issue. Does anyone who spews drunken racial slurs or gets caught in Klan gear actually stand up for what they believe? Nope. And that's why they are all super duper lame. Free speech means you actually intended to say that and you’ll stand behind it. These wimps and people like them do not deserve that right and therefore these fools should be charged with lewd acts, using the internet to send racially motivated images( disturbing the peace…) , and dereliction of duty ( see previous two). Seriously, I don’t think any of these guys even know who Clayton Bigsby is! All together it’s sad stupid and funny. As a matter of fact I am going to Ohio now because their State Boys are such a riot. See you there!

p.s. You don’t have to go to Ohio to see this. You can probably find such side splittin humor locally. Annnnd so where did he get the Klan outfit??

  • Ohio has got a rather large amount of white supremacists/ kkk groups. yehaw. !! I would think to be part of such a group nowadays would be pretty embarrassing......I mean come on---how blatantly moronic can one be? Evolve already.

  • Ohio rule of thumb: anything south of Akron is Northern Kentucky....

  • Ahhh, but then you have the 'little oasis' of Yellow Springs.
