Telecom Thinktank: Free Cellphones for the Poor Would Make American Economy Boom
(((I'd be guessing they're right, actually. Still, American society takes such glee in crushing the poor that it's hard to believe they'd give 'em phones for free.)))
(((Before a scheme like this passes Congress I'd expect an avalanche of legislation to *deprive* the poor of phones. Especially *immigrants!* God only know what they're doing with those devices... *making money,* I have no doubt...)))

I dont necessarily think that the taxpayers would have to pay for the bills...we just need the energy revolution to meet the information revolution. Specifically, if google is free and stuff like open source software is free, why cant electricity and cell phones be free. I mean the decreases in costs for connecting phone calls over the past 10 or 15 years has to be huge...wont we get to a point where the energy costs are so low, it wont be worth charging the consumer...? Google thinks so...everyone should make industry pay in my opinion...and focus on empowering the consumers and connecting people...information is everywhere...and its cheaper and cheaper...connect the people, inspire creativity and yes...the economy will follow...
