The Nobel Peace laureate made the comment Sunday at a news conference in Seattle, Washington, where he has been attending a five-day "Seeds of Compassion" conference.
The exiled Tibetan spiritual leader denied Chinese claims that he has called for Tibet to split from China and that he is behind the recent turmoil. He said the whole world knows that the Dalai Lama is not seeking independence or separation.

who cares if he resigns or not? he is just a slave master.
-
i am befuddled by bbbbq's remarks but to each his/her own.
anyways, i thought this came out 3 weeks ago? not that i agree with the monks and their beliefs but they are not doing harm to anyone. china is playing just doing what the rest of us did a few hundred years ago.
regardless of what china is doing to tibet, there are countless atrocities going on worldwide that don't have this media coverage that are far worse than a few hundred monk protesters being killed. yet because china is a big global player everyone is upset. people just bother me.

I was fortunate enough to hear him speak last Saturday at Quest Field. He struck me as someone who is very humble, genuinely kind, and it was clear he has a sense of humor as he joked with his interpretor and the 50,000+ people that packed the stadium to see him.
He started off by saying that he had nothing to offer the spectators but a few empty words. He spoke mainly about compassion and how to bestow love and compassion into our children because as his generation is about to say good bye to the planet they must do what they can to prepare the youngest ones to inherit it.
Over head there was a small plane towing a banner "Dalia Lama please stop supporting riots". I don't understand the basis of that as much as I understand what bbbbq555 said. The Dalai Lama has done nothing but preach peace over war, love over hate, compassion over anger for over 50 years now. This is a man who literally wouldn't kill a bug because it could be his mother reincarnate. That being the case I don't see him being a supporter of riots or in the role of slave master.
-
China should realize that the Dalai Lama could be their best friend. He could help reform the human rights abuses that anger so much of the world and restore stability to a country that could turn on it's government at any moment.
-
The Dalai Lama's resignation would most certainly be viewed retrospectively as one of the tragic events of our age. What would it say about the state of the world, let alone the Far East?

bbbbq555 = are you chinese or ignorant? nearly the same since the Mao propaganda machine has been in the works for two generations....
diode - Learn....there is apparently much your are ignorant about to this and connections to much larger global issues.....

many people seem to believe that slavery under the Tibetan theocratic/patriarchal dictatorship that existed before the red revolultion in China was all made up by Maoists. lots of Free Tibet supporters seem to not be aware of the British Imperialist involvement and propaganda during the failed uprising. what's worse is that there seems to be a denial that the Dalai Lama DOES NOT want to break up with China.
i wish there is a way to divert the "current" anti-sinoism into a more productive stance against global human rights violations by all nations. it's hard to accept people from the US and the UK denouncing China when those countries have far worse violations. is there a way to unify all that energy and take it step by step?

Pressrecord, those people believe the Maoist propaganda machine that started churning in the 1940’s and is clearly alive and well today. Simply by the volume of pro-China posts and type of rhetoric they are posting, the machinery is alive and well on the internet today! I have no problem with the Dali Lamas call for an autonomous Tibetan region within China, the issue here Pressrecord is he has called for this since 1959, the Chinese will not talk.
Now all of a sudden thousands and thousands of people are aware of an issue on going since 1949. And yes Britain and the US have had a hand in this situation. No country is above reproach, the US is involved in very similar behavior in the Middle East.
Your wish for the end of all the human rights violations is well stated and I agree totally. I see few if any world leader/figure that continuously and tirelessly work to benefit all people, all the time without wavering dignity, equanimity and ethics than Buddhist teachers such as the Dali Lama.

...and if the truth were on the Chinese side why all the propaganda and secrecy?

AndreaKnoll - nice thanks for posting! The Chinese gov't setting up stipulations for talks though...seems they are not interested in actually talking, no big surprise....
-
briaz. these issues have been around for centuries. its not something particularly new. its exploded into a media frenzy why, because thousands upon thousands of people are protesting the chinese olympic games due to the harsh crack downs on the riots.
-
Oh humans...
devo64, everyone is charismatic and funny on stage.. its their role. the fact that he speaks of development and piece doesn't separate him from anyone else.
pressrecord, i think you are the only person on this thread who seems to know anything about this situation, and are taking more into consideration that what seems to be the most popular answer.
No one is old enough to know a lot about the real issues here or the Dali Lama himself.
People thought Ghandi was a great guy .. but what was he? Racist.

re: Turkish Police and Kurds posting from Kurdistani.
Just to inform you, the video title that displays is directly translated from Turkish into English as "Lynching Child Rapists", please be more informed when posting comments/videos on a worldwide network. This video has nothing to do with Turkish police and Kurds.

One should be able to see the difference between Gandhi, Dali Lama, Ataturk, Adolf Hitler and Saddam Husain. And one should show reaction against them.
If humanity showed reaction against Ataturk during Armenians, Hitler wouldn’t have done what he did. And Saddam would have poisoned 5000 Kurds.
Some are at stage, some are watching stage. Some are taking messages given from stage some are not.
I have taken my massage. And that is why I am a vegetarian, because I do not want an animal to be killed. So, some people do not act different only when they are at stage. They act different other times as well.

You brought up one good point.. Monks are not likely rioting...Its probably people dressed up like them to make you think things are that crazy...

It is clear that you know Turkish.
Here is what you have said: "Just to inform you, the video title that displays is directly translated from Turkish into English"
So you know Turkish...
What am I supposed to do when translating Turkish to English? Am I supposed to change the concept?
And It is clear that you do not want the Kurdish problem be known world wide.
Well, that is you wish...
This site is about every thing you want to shear.
I Wonder why It makes you mad when Kurds problem with Turks is spoken?
Can you explain please?
How much Turkish are you?
When so many Kurds are being killed every day by Turks, why shouldn't it be spoken?
Why it hearts you when it is spoken?
I really want to know your answer.
If you wonder who am i; I am a Kurd.
I wonder why do you think you have the right to decide for this site what to do?
Do you think you have gut that right?

Something must be wrong with your "cut" and "paste" functions on your key board. Here is what I wrote regarding your link...
"Just to inform you, the video title that displays is directly translated from Turkish into English as "Lynching Child Rapists", please be more informed when posting comments/videos on a worldwide network. This video has nothing to do with Turkish police and Kurds."
I do not deny the atrocities that occur all over the world, and, I truly accept that I do not know everything about everything.
But in this case, I was simply drawing attention to the fact that you posted a video, declaring its content as the treatment of Kurds by Turkish police, and the video was actually titled "Lynching Child Rapists".
I meant no disrespect to either side in this conflict, rather, I wanted to be sure that people on this board knew the true title of the footage in the link you pasted. Nothing more.
