Here is what he said April 6, referring to people living in areas hit by job losses: “[I]t’s not surprising, then, that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

  • ...."3. Some people actually use guns to hunt — not to compensate for a salary that’s less than a U.S. senator’s."

Right. Because Hillary's finances looks exactly like the common man's. Let's face it. At the end of the day, when the media is done rewinding and reinterpreting what any of these candidates say, people are going to vote their gut. What do you prefer, Jug Ears, A Plastic Smile, Or Cobwebs?

  • I find that the primary reason people get mad about something someone says is the fact they're right. Go Barack! Keep doing what your doing!

  • He's right people are bitter about job loss. In some places the factory shut down, and went overseas. The whole town shuts down with it. They move if they can, or stay and starve out if they can't. Their whole lives and what they know changed through no fault of their own. Of course they are bitter, I'm bitter just thinking about it.

  • Here's a link to the full comments in context. I think it's hard to argue that what Obama said is untrue, but how much his rivals can use this to damage him remains to be seen. Judge for yourself.

And then there's this. Bill Clinton's comments from 1991...where he says basically the same thing Obama did.

  • I honestly do not think that Obama was trying to express classist sentiments. What he said spoke more to me about the human condition of scape-goating which, lets face it everyone does. The fact that the Clinton campaign has latched on to this small spark of discontent and has thrown all of its efforts into fanning the flames of it is a step in the wrong direction.

  • Its a gaffe, seriously, don't you all know the NHL playoffs are on? Shame!

  • What he said was right. It kind of surprised me that he didn't say it better. I have every faith that he will come out and clarify what he meant and people will understand. I believe that the people he was referring to will be the first to understand. Implying that he is against guns is cheap politics. He meant the people have given up expecting any help with their failing economy so they look for another reason to vote. That is the reason gay marriage, gun control, and immigration are always brought up in the campaigns.
  • Obama brilliantly turned this issue around to smack old Hillary and McCain right on the ass.

Hillary (The Billion Dollar Princess) immediately began claiming that what Obama said wasn't true. No one lost their jobs and what few people did were actually very happy about! No bitterness here! Yea NAFTA! (but she was secretly against it the whole time! Shhh!)

McCain soiled his adult diapers and then began muttering something about how Obama didn't respect the lowly piss-ant workers as much as he did! He then spit on a few homeless people before driving off in his limo to one of his FIVE mansions to have his trophy wife feed him some applesauce before Wheel of Fortune came on.

Since the issue of class warfare is out there Obama in now making it a part of his stump speeches -- and doing his usual brilliant job.

I just heard a YouTube of his most recent speech where he is ripping Hillary apart -- making fun of her efforts to pretend to the blue collar crowd that she is an avid hunter. Watching 60 year old Blue Blood Hillary pretend she is an avid hunter is just embarrassing. Why don't her close friends stop her from humilitating herself like that?

"Politicans will say anything during a campaign season," Obama remarked. "They'll even go into a local bar -- with a huge TV crew in tow -- to drink a beer and take a shot!" Mocking Hillary's lame attempt to interact with mere mortals. As lame as Bush throwing on his flannel shirt and pretending to "work" on his Crawford Ranch!

The problem with being in politics as long as the Billion Dollar Princess and Old Man McCain is that -- it means you haven't lived like a normal person for a very, very, very long time.

Obama is now brilliantly exploiting those weaknesses in his two opponents.

  • It takes alot to tell people their truth, when its not flattering. From a campaigning politician? Unheard of!

Commentary here in Pittsburgh is that he told the truth about what he saw.

The link is to Spoiled Heat, a video I made about the emotional life of this community years downstream from the loss of industry and jobs. The steel mill shown in the video, the last existing mill east of the Mississippi, this was the mill visited by Obama as documented here

    http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/caitlinha...

including some interesting photos of the steelworkers.

The mill Obama visited is located in the city documented in SPOILED HEAT, a city decimated by 90% population loss. Bitter? Clinging to what they've got? Perhaps. Because the 10% who remain are working their asses off to keep their necks above water. Nobody's coming to help them that they didn't go out and find and invite back personally.

With all the furor over Obama's truth-telling we've forgotten the work we need to do as a country to help these people solve their problems.

Can we get over it and and help the people solve the problems please?

  • smithers...the link to his comments are above. Could you break down the racist parts for us? You could just cut and paste the parts that you find to be racist. Because I'm just not seeing it. Thanks.

  • MRsmithers, "No. WAKE UP STUPID PEOPLE. When my son asks what is a "typical white response", how a bout what is the difference between a lie and misspeaking, Do I explain by giving excuses?"

No, just tell him it is often bigoted.
  • Smithers, it is not racism. It is classism, which is hated between class structures. There is a big difference. It sounds like you expect your presidents to make no mistakes at all because there are no excuses or accidents. Just, "woops you made a mistake, now its time to lynch you."

Stop looking for excuses you tear down our best chance at a future for this country.

  • That is some serious psychoanalysis there smithers. I've heard Obama say several times (it's in almost every stump speech) that he is the son of a single mother who was white. In fact, he takes a fair amount of criticism for it. So to say that he rejects anything white isn't accurate.

Plus...he didn't crap on his grandmother.

I'm still interested in what specifically in his comments from SF that you feel were racist. Can you elaborate on that?
    krag2112
  • Okay. Let's take a look at your behavior. When somebody challenges the opinions you posted on a public site, you respond with insults and claim that you're "finished with" people who wouldn't be able to understand your explanations. Should we psychoanalyze your behavior?

I pointed out an inaccuracy in your comments and asked you a simple question, one you did not answer. If you don't want people to respond to your comments, why post them on board like this? If you were you only seeking validation, I think you may have come to the wrong place.

But thanks for your comments anyway. Good luck to you.

  • As interesting as your take on the history of psychodynamic terminology is...here's the question again that you have failed to answer.

"I'm still interested in what specifically in his comments from SF that you feel were racist. Can you elaborate on that?"

Since you're so much more intelligent, I'm sure you don't need me to point out the words "specifically" and "comments from SF".

Take as much time as you need. Looking forward to your response.

  • All this talk about my icon and psychology but yet you can't answer a simple question. I even provided a link to the transcript of his comments. Here it is again.

    http://thepage.time.com/transcript-of-obamas-remarks-at...

Try putting that superior intellect to work and answer the question. I'm sure you don't want to continue looking like a coward to all the people reading this.

    Again...take your time, I'll wait.
    krag2112
  • And still no answer. Sad.

    Keep trying smithers.
    krag2112
  • Your obsession with my icon aside...why are you afraid to answer the question? This must really be getting embarrassing for you. I asked it almost 15 posts ago and you just keep on ducking it by trying (and failing) to pull me into some side discussion. Not going to happen.

I look forward to your thoughtful answer to the question I asked lo those many posts ago. Thanks again.
