New Australian-developed contraceptive jab for men, taken four times a year, has been proven to be just as effective as birth-control pills for women.

Sydney researchers found the hormonal injection is a quick and reliable method of contraception for up to 95 per cent of males - but pharmaceutical companies have shown little interest in making it available to the public.

The new jab works by suppressing sperm output but does not have a permanent effect.

So what's up guys? Would you want to take on the responsibility of birth control for yourself? Should pharmaceutical companies - or even governments be more willing to support these advancements?

It's about time! Guys deserve to take on some of the responsibility too! When's it coming state-side?

As much as I hate getting shots, I hate having unwanted pregnancies more. Sign me up.

Well lets see 10 sec to put on condom - 5 times a week.
    3 sec to get a needle - 4 times a year.

Problem is, what happens when you really want a baby? You have to wait a whole year!

watch this comment being used here, here and here

I wonder what impact this could have on the spread of STDs. Good luck to any girls that want a guy to wear a condom if he's had this shot. But still, any other way for guys to share the responsibility of birth control is a good thing.

Great idea to stop unwanted pregnancies, but is the injection likely to forfeit people's 'safe sex' practices?

I am happy to see that this has been developed. I am sad that pharmaceutical companies and governments are not embracing this more.

As mentioned, along with any pharma-birthcontrol, the pill, depo-shot, or patches, education has to remain strong to advocate condoms to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

If this new shot for men is actually effective, it doesn't make sense to me why they wouldn't make it available in the US. Wouldn't you think this would be a HUGE breakthrough.

Um, this is nothing new. My grandfather actually used to work for a company (can't remember the name, its in his memoirs) during WWII which was working on a temporary sterility injection for soldiers on shore leave. He said they were testing it on cattle with wide success and it worked with quite good results on humans.

i hate injections, there should be an easier way..like Just a thought...Lets say you don't want throw your seeds but still want to do it, why not just invent a thought machine that could stop the seeds..after all we are talking about sex here, and the joy comes from the brain rather than the hands or the thighs...what say you?

"don't worry baby, i've had the shot..."

    kind of sounds like:

"don't worry baby, i'll pull out at just the right time..."

if your dumb enough to trust either one you shouldn't be having sex to begin with.

well as a new dad i say its about time my wife had bad reactions to many different kinds of birth control till the doctor told us just to use condoms.....wel in the heat of the moment we didn't always use one...i don't regret having my son but planing and timimg is the most important factor when having kids....in wish this would was available to the public

just think, none of these birth control methods are 100%.
even with the shot, the pill, condoms, and withdrawal, there is still the possibility of getting pregnant. Its just a lot safer to not have sex. Abstinence is the only way to be sure. But there is no fun in that.

Sex is fun, have fun with it. Just know the risks and take the proper precaution. Or just go get a vasectomy cause its reversible just don't be stupid with:

"come on baby its my birthday"

or any of the other things abbo said. go sex.

I am totally cool with this as long as it doesn't put my goods out of commission permenantly.

This kinda worries me. If this shot if made readily available to teens, condom use will go way down. STDs will be everywhere! As we make technological advancements with contraceptives, the government needs to enforce better sex education in public schools. (it’s pretty weak here in the states) Kids are ganna have sex no matter how much abstinence is recommended. The best we can do is teach them how to protect themselves.

When I saw this article I thought it was cool that for once the guys get to be in our shoes. But thinking again about it, how do you know if they took it or to what extend do you trust someone to let them take that.
Sticking to the old method might still be better like baca4149 said.
