Suffering catfish! Is this what religion is all about?

Ah, dammit eastern religous extremists! Can't they just get over the fact that people have different opinions and beliefs?!?

That's a breach of several human rights: freedom of speech, right to life, right to trial (as I believe there is a "Blasphemy Law" in Pakistan), it's just a complete outrage that people are still determined to show proof that we're related to monkeys by acting like them!

"When police arrived at the scene, they prevented the angry mob from burning the body."

Are they still living in the dark ages?
    Despicable behavior.
If one lets zealotry drive them to torture and murder, then they are the most dangerous kind of ape.

    Religion is humanity's brain tumor.

I don't know if religion is to blame.

If we took away religion -- some people would just find something else to get worked up about.

I forsee a future world wherein there is no religious violence anywhere, but violent wars are fought on behalf of our favorite American Idol.

A moment of silence for all those who lost their lives fighting to keep Sanjaya out of the bottom two.

Spiral9, I've resized the photo to make it fit snugly here on Current, and uploaded it to my ImageShack account. You can edit your article, go to choose another media, click on "from somewhere else", copy/paste the url below into the field, click on "process", and then click on "done" (or whatever the word is, I can't remember exactly). When you're done, I'll delete this post. :)

westerners...we have to just understand...you don't talk sh*t about other people's beloved beliefs. especially if it's about the prophet. this stuff can and will happen. it's not the same all over the world. we can get mad all about it and be disgusted but it's (almost) the same as someone insulting your mom...even worse when your mom gave you permission to fight.

"Ah, dammit eastern religious extremists! Can't they just get over the fact that people have different opinions and beliefs?!?"

    can we??

I would definitely not be torturing/ lynching/ burning the body of someone who insulted my mother, no matter what they said about her.

This behavior is inexcusable, in my ever so humble opinion.
    Monkey business at its finest.

press record. we do. on a daily basis. i work in places and with patients of many backgrounds and i'm not murdering every one of them that says differently about my beliefs. america is one of the most diverse places on the planet. we have almost every culture, race and religion on the planet. there are extremists everywhere and they will do what they want. saying hey guys, peace out, isn't going to work. as sad as this is, its going to keep happening. closed mindedness is why this world is going to hell in a handbasket

ahhh, can't get enough of that yummy religious violence!

but seriously what happened to salaam??? apparently peaceful greetings don't always lead to peaceful actions.

All the Elohim are evil as far as I am concerned. They are usurper Gods that have people in mind prisons of beliefs with all their inducements to justify murder of the unbelievers. This kind of thing will never end until all those ideas are destroyed and not allowed to be transmitted to children. It seems that the only way to
stop this is to exterminate, but then we would become just like those who would do the same to us Infidels.

We would become like Jehovah in the old testament when he commanded the Israelites to "kill them all, including the women and children; dash their heads against the rock and suffer none to survive." When he was talking about the Canaanites who were living in their new promised land.

How can one respect these people's religions when their religions are about killing innocent people?

Men who think they are helping God by killing other men are animals of the lowest kind.

I guess I would have to say that I have respect for people's religions and beliefs as long as they aren't trying to proselytize or kill those that don't believe as they do. The rest can go fruck themselves.

each one of these needless killings just drags me further and further down. its super sad. especially that he was young and that he was "tortured" to death. I don't want to imagine what that entails, but surely he didn't deserve it. as someone who's name I can't recall at the moment once said, "I may hate, despise, and disagree with every single word you say, but I would fight to the death for your right to say it." whether or not he was saying something disrespectful about Mohamed, to kill him was barbaric, senseless, evil, and ignorant.

  •

crob80227, you're spot on. with or without religion, there are just good apples and bad apples. in every group, in every race, in every religion, in every nationality, in every culture, there are people who do good and people who do bad. never mind the excuse for it, bad folks will always justify their actions with something.

  •

This is awful. But why is it any more culturally barbaric than the youth of America killing each other over gang territory? There are extremists right here, but in the name of religious difference, we point the finger to the east and call them crazy.

would we be willing to all take a look at what islam actually teach and even consider instituting some elements of it in our modern society? like, welcoming all the people we displace all over the world into our own country?

i wonder if America is ready for that??

I know we throw around the word terrorism all the time now, but that is what this is. From the cartoon in the netherlands, to this, if you are afraid to say something because you fear violent retribution, that is terrorism. This is the new wave of warfare from muslim extremists.

After the cartoon was published I remember reading a quote from a muslim cleric demanding an apology from everyone who propagated it. If this is the way the world is going to be from now on, then go ahead and kill me cause I'm bound to piss someone off soon!

    swizzle:

That is a pretty flawed argument. You make it sound like we socially accept gang killings so we don't have the right to give these guys grief for killing in the name of religion. Gang killing is illegal, punished severely, and looked at as a social problem. Where do you live that thinks otherwise?

The people in the article ARE crazy in a sense. They have been shaped by years of controlled media and government run religion. Not to say that we haven't in our own way, but still I think the differences are obvious.

Perhaps, if those elements are compatible with the values that our society holds dear. But if we are talking about "an eye for an eye", "death penalty for homosexuality", or "subjugation of women" then hell no!

thank you jubal for your two posts of reason. i've noticed in most of your comments you get in first it always ends up being what i was going to type and then realized you had already typed it.

if islam was the religion of this nation, there would be massive murders. i guarantee there would be millions refusing to convert and millions who'd openly mock them. we see how well this turns out yes? religion of peace as long as you agree with them.
