The U.S. military said Monday it will release Associated Press photographer Bilal Hussein, more than two years after he was detained by U.S. Marines on suspicions of links to insurgents. The military said it has determined Hussein is not a threat and plans to free him Wednesday...

-
"The military said it has determined Hussein is not a threat and plans to free him Wednesday..."

Let's give the Bush Admin a break.
You're all acting like two years is a long time to keep someone locked up in a small room while the government tries to make a determination.
Haven't you ever stood in line at the DMV?
ba-dum-bum! (I'm here all week)
The fact that this innocent man was able to be released in under 5 years should be a testament to the speed and efficiency of the Bush Admin. They have improved a LOT. They've upgraded for "Jesus Christ You Guys SUCK!" to a more respectable "Oh For Fuck's Sake This Is Ridiculous!" An incredible accomplishment for a Republican Administration.
So, please, show a little respect for the effort. -
Links to insurgents? What insurgents? There are no insurgents in Iraq - insurgents are those who take part in forcible opposition to a legitimate authority -- there is no legitimate authority in Iraq, there is only the "authority" which was illegally put into place by the occupiers who organized, controlled and imposed the elections, chose who could run and who couldn't run, and who even dictated Iraq's constitution, thereby guaranteeing that this constitution has no legal basis whatsoever.

i though the only news outlet covering this story was democracy now...its good to see some light being shed on the fact that the governments of the world can do anything they want to whoever they want whenever they like.
we all should have learned this from cointelpro during the civil rights/black panther/weathermen/women's liberation era, but once again it appears that no one ever learns anything from history.-

can we take away two years of THEIR lives?
It seems the tables should turn on who's who a terrorist.-

it would be great if the military freed other "terrorists" that they have no hard evidence for.
-
right - how about dissolving the US military ?
-
If we don't want this to happen then we need to get those Republicans out of office! It's shameful but half of the US seem to support it.
-
I'm willing to bet the only reason he was detained for being a terrorist is because of the last name Hussein, it is sickening how our government can be so short sited and detain so called terrorists, with no evidence. its kinda like how they detained all Japanese after pearl harbor, just because they where Japanese.

so does this guy get compensated for 2 years wasted out of his life? He should be given a lump sum of money and free theropy sessions, im sure after having to deal with the military for 2 years the guy may have some problems.

Just imagine what would have happened to him if he was working for Al Jazeera instead AP.

Everyone seems so negative about this. Its not like we tortured him, we were just playing it safe.
-
if any "actionable intelligence " was ever obtained from any of these prisoners which wasn't gathered in "the field" anyhow during their "detainment" , i will convert to scientology .
-
I wonder if Bilal Hussein could get some cash for his suffering.
In Hernandez v. Sheahan (U.S. District Ct., N.D.) a Federal jury awarded $750,000 to man who was wrongly jailed for 15 days.
Since Hussein’s detention was 50 times longer, he should get $37,500,000, if a judge was inclined to follow precedent.-

Playing it safe for two years. Excuse me that is a load of Bull Shit B3RT! Aside from the fact that he was framed, do you honestly believe he received star treatment for what he was being detained for. Read the article, place yourself in his shoes, then come back and make in educated response to the topic.

It's good he's been released, but two years to figure out he didn't have any links to so-called insurgents?
Have they been hand delivering their correspondences with the intel agencies? -
I'd like to see this headline: "AP sues US government for wrongful imprisonment"

it isn't that big a deal really. i mean, the gov't was just trying to save all of us from anything terrible happening. that is all. kinda like...not leaving the house because you don't want to get wet by the rain, right?!
i know folks working in Cuba and they've explained how difficult it is for them to free prisoners out of fear that when they are returned to their home lands....they'll just get murdered there anyway. so...it's for their own good that innocent people are detained and then not released for years.
freedom ain't free, people.-

wow that is horrible. I think we obviously need to be much more careful about what we take from people, like years of lives
-
Sad. I sure hope he gets compensated. Although nothing can really make up for 2 years of imprisonment.

one down, hundreds to go.
