Alternative fuel - Salt water

I saw a report a few years ago on my local TV news about John Kanzius, a former radio executive, who had discovered that radio frequency will make salt water burn.

I was so fascinated by this idea. I wished I had a few billion dollars to buy his patent and turn his discovery into planet saving technology.

Now, on Sunday, I saw 60 Minutes did a story on John Kanzius and his breakthroughs on cancer research. 60 Minutes did not mention the salt water power solution Kanzius discovered. I wonder why.

Does anyone know if someone bought the technology from Kanzius?

  • this is really amazing. great find i hadnt heard anything about this. hopefully the damn oil companies dont buy the patent like they have battery patents and solar patents.

both of the sites have great articles

  • that is phenomenal...free energy. all around us. everywhere. there is no need for oil. why why why cant we stop. please.

  • not an alternative energy source, but still pretty darn cool...

  • How much energy does it take to run that radio device?

I bet it's more than it generates. The Sun is the way to go.

  • to: pwdrskir. just like our engines today that generate the power themselves to operate the electronics and what not in essence sustain themselves [as far as electricity is concerned]. the battery is only there as a starter or a limited backup energy source.
now if this radio wave generator [or rather the engine that it would in turn be the power source for] were made large enough then it could be self sustaining.

also it could use supplimental solar, hydro, or wind power. there ya go

  • With over a billion people without potable water to live on with that number stated to increase two fold by 2025, I really don't think using salt water for fuel is a viable option. Desalination itself usually requires expensive plants to be built near a coastal water source with harm to marinelifea threat. There are other alternate options that could and should be explored, namely solar and biofuels made from hemp. Although, I give him kudos for at least trying.

  • Wait, this guy "cured cancer" and has solved the energy crisis? Sounds like a snake-oil salesman to me.

  • I thought he disappeared! I saw him on BayNews9 and then nothing for years.

  • There's another man in Clearwater (same town as Kanzius) used Distilled Water by breaking down H2O into HHO and burned the Hydrogen atoms with the biproduct being water. He converted his car to run off tap water.

  • If this is legit, and he made this discovery a year or two ago, then why havent i heard abou it? He better get serious grants or i will raise hell. lol

  • to: dirkglitchmann No, it could not be self sustained. A car engine is not self sustaining, it requires gas which in turn powers the electricity and moves the vehicle. The cost to power the engine is more than the cost to power the electrical parts in the car.

Thus, the bigger the radio frequency device, the more power it is going to take to run it. Just because you build it bigger doesn’t mean it will work more efficiently.

The info below is copied from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermodynamic_efficiency

According to “Carnot efficiency: The second law of thermodynamics puts a fundamental limit on the thermal efficiency of heat engines. This limiting value is called the Carnot cycle efficiency because it is the efficiency of an unattainable, ideal, loss less (reversible) engine cycle called the Carnot cycle. No heat engine, regardless of its construction, can exceed this efficiency.”

“In practice, because no practical implementation of the Carnot cycle exists coupled with other irreversibilities such as the combustion process itself and friction, real engines fall far short of the Carnot efficiency. Real automobile engines are only around 25% efficient, combined cycle power stations have efficiencies much higher however will still fall at least 15% points short of the Carnot value. As Carnot's theorem only applies to heat engines, devices that convert the fuel's energy directly into work without burning it such as fuel cells, can exceed the Carnot efficiency.”

This is obviously a heat/burning device.

  • "They saw his amazing invention and they were amazed."
Amazing things tend to do that.
And it does look amazing, but a couple things worry me: How safe is are those radio waves and since when was salt water renewable?

  • very surprised with the level of stupidity from some of the people on this thread.
please read some books, preferably something pertaining to logic.
    thx : )

  • Salt water fuel is a joke. In ten years, when the American economy is obliterated, we'll look back and blame these energy hacks for the false optimism.

  • Cure for cancer, great. But is this salt water fuel any better for the environment? Or is this just an unlimited resource that will kill the environment off faster?
