Four people from a Seattle-based film crew and a Nigerian man accompanying them have been detained for illegally traveling by boat in restive southern Nigeria. They were in the country filming a documentary "Sweet Crude"; tells the story of Niger Delta, an unstable area of Nigeria. Often access to oil revenue is the trigger for the violence. Pipelines are regularly vandalized by impoverished residents, who risk their lives to siphon off fuel.
An associate of the film crew contacted the State Department and was told that a representative from the embassy in Abuja was on the way to see the group.

Well, the reporters seem to be idiots to me. The Nigerian Gov't. is not going to allow access to the militants, unless they control the access and content of the report.
What kind of country do you think this is?
It is a quasi/military/democracy! What journalism schools continue to pump out these "mouthpieces" for entrenched military gov'ts.
It sells , but it is rife with lies and illusions. However, real people die, while journalists make their stories! -
Last week The Stranger featured an article by Sandy Cioffi, the director of Sweet Crude: "A Shooting Crime; What I wanted was closing footage for my documentary about oil production in the Niger Delta. What I got was a week in a Nigerian military prison." -

I knew that they had been detained on trumped up charges and were being held to prevent their story from getting out. Sandy's article was right on target. -
If you want to help Nigeria, talk to the Nigerians Over seas, who have intelligence, and we will tell you what needs, and actions that will help us, but if want to show the world another problem..Then they will get what they deserve....
