"We're the YouTube Generation, living in the YouTube Era, in a YouTube World. And now we apparently have a YouTube Divorce.

Some prominent New York divorce lawyers couldn't think of another case where a spouse -- in this instance, the wife of a major Broadway theater operator -- had taken to YouTube to spill the secrets of a marriage in an apparent effort to gain leverage and humiliate the other side.

"This is absolutely a new step, and I think it's scary," said Bonnie Rabin, a divorce lawyer who has handled high-profile cases. "People used to worry about getting on Page Six [the gossip page of the New York Post]. But this? It brings the concept of humiliation to a whole new level."

In a tearful and furious YouTube video with close to 150,000 hits to date, former actress and playwright ("Bonkers") Tricia Walsh-Smith lashes out against her husband, Philip Smith, president of the Shubert Organization, the largest theater owner on Broadway." CNN

This thing is sad and kinda funny in a way. Who would have thought to put their private matters on YouTube, but then again allot has changed when we got the internet.

  • I just read this on via Google News and wanted to come here and see what other people thought. I think that something like this should be kept personal. Divorce is hard for everyone and this lady is just trying to ruin her former husband. Also, it was a bad move because it makes her look like the "bad guy" in court and now, to the public.

Thanks for publishing this story. Do you agree?

  • Evan,

I completely agree, divorce is a private matter that shouldn't be brought into the public light. It's not our business to know, nor has anyone got any business in knowing about the ins and outs of a divorce case.

  • watch this comment being used here, here, here, here, here, and here
I'm actually hoping this childish action might help the husband in this scenario. I don't think many judges would find any sort of maturity in posting on online divorce rant.

  • i agree with you 100% LaWingman. I cant see this helping her in court. However, she will end up making money off of this if it gets dragged out in the media. I smell a book deal!

  • You guys have to watch the video on YouTube.....she really makes herself look bad--and doesn't do much to showcase women in a positive light. She should put those cards away and do some soul-searching. Not trying to judge here......but it looks like she was caught up in a rich lifestyle and should have figured that there would not be a 'happily ever after' ending to this.... buena suerte!

  • From the video it sounded like she was just trying to find some way around the pre-nup she already knew going to stop her her from getting away with this.

I doubt getting publicity from YouTube is going to change the facts of the case since it's not a very sympathetic video and the only hope she has is if she can distract and distort enough of them to gain an advantage which doesn't seem very likely.

  • Quite frankly they're all too rich for me to truly care about this!

  • In the clip, she says "I'm an idiot" -- and it's hard to disagree.

  • I don't understand. How did she think acting like a teenage drama queen would get her leverage on her divorce settlement? She made herself look immature and disrespected what was left of their marriage.

  • People will do anything for some attention.

But I think showing more divorce might be good for us all. I actually think a divorce reality show might be good... anything to make people think twice about getting a divorce. And maybe be careful with marriage in the first place. Aren't 50% of marriages ending in divorce these days?

  • I'd never advocate jumping on a web-cam and broadcasting intimate and personal problems when they involve another individual, but, this woman just comes across as frustrated.

It's not wise for her to have put this on youtube, but she appears to have hit a deadend in negotiations and she must want to vent some of her anger.

For some reason I've got more sympathy for this woman, than say Heather Mills and her calculated domination of the big media agencies.

  • I can't even believe this is considered news with all that is going on in this world now.

  • By her own admission she is a stupid woman. I agree. This is going to backfire on her.

  • This is crazy. The reason for the divorce should be keep private. Did we come this far in the tech age to share very private things on the internet?
    Sani
  • she's OBVIOUSLY a crazy golddigger!!
