- It Happened Here (22)
Remember those cartoons where they'd pull a plug at the bottom of a lake and watch it drain like a bathtub? Well it happened here at Lake Peigneur, Louisiana in 1980, when an exploratory oil-field drill accidentally pierced the ceiling of a salt mine below the lake's waters. The result - a swirling vortex of doom, sucking down land, trees, barges and nearly people. Today, 28 years later, this once apocalyptic scene is now the site of mysterious bubbling, that has been raising the eyebrows of residents and drawing attention to what could be a sleeping giant . . .

No responses.....sad, sad, sad
This pod is well edited and describes in detail the ongoing fight between the residents and petroleum interests. The Lake Peigneur disaster, unlike many of the other "engineering disasters", was caused by one boneheaded move(oops! drilled into salt mine). It now seems poised for round 2. I see from your site that the water bill has passed. Well done! I'm guessing that will halt any new gas storage construction. Is there any movement on getting the existing gas storage removed? If the foam is testing positive for cavern excavation fluids, isn't that a clear indicator the caverns are leaking? The blatant disregard for your lives and the community is heartbreaking. Thank you for the pod!-
