More often than not I applaud clever advertising schemes. This is the not.
Some evil advertising genius has come up with a way to ruin one of the most essential of human experiences. The name of this frankenstein is "Flogos." Flogos are logo's that are comprised of soap bubbles and take to the sky resembling clouds.
The children of the future will no longer need to use their brains to get enjoyment out of clouds, and will probably want a big mac or a new pair of nikes after just a few minutes of looking at the SKY of all things.
Ad gurus, here's some new frontiers : Eyelids, wombs, rocks (prolly already on top of that one), fingernails and while we're at it lets train fireflies to spell out the General Electric logo and breed all new puppies to have the Mickey Mouse symbol on them.
(I really hope I didn't just give someone some ideas)

This is sickening.

Well, just goes to show, with enough money, you can do anything, and big companies have a lot of money.
-
Look up in the sky! Its a bird, its a plane, its an Orwellian scheme that proves capitalism knows how to suck all the joy and wonder out of the universe!
Ok color me a cyinc on this one. I realy liked cloudgazing. I would prefer to see what artists could accomplish in this field. -
More ideas:
Genetically modified clovers to grow the adidas symbol.
McFlowers - Flowers that smell like chicken mcnuggets.
Perhaps IKEA could create some sort of tree that doubles as patio furniture.
This really grinds my gears.

who gives a rat's ass about a bunch of clouds
-
I doubt this will ever catch on to be anything more than a novelty. I mean skywriting has been around nearly as long as planes have, but I honestly can't think of one time I've seen it used as advertising.
Except for in cartoons. -
I think that's a really cool idea, actually. Just not for advertising - we get enough of that already.
-
Why do people always dwell on the negative. Advertising is a very useful way of finding out about products. I use products all the time, they rock!
-
I see no problems, until spammers get their grubby prodding hands on this new medium.
"You are the 10001292th person to look up at this cloud, give us your money."
Or how about some cloud porn,
anyone?-

No wonder my eyes were burning while looking at an exact replica of the Eiffel Tower in the sky. I thought it was Acid Rain. Whew!
-
This disgusts me . do we not use enough of nature to our advantage already . Why do we need to alter the skys they are plenty beautiful as they are
-
ah...now I see where Ben Dorries is coming from.
and I thought this was going to be some "creative and cute" personal political statement advocating peace. =D lol
but yeah I don't like that corporate advertisers/marketers may get their filthy hands on this either... it's like all the enjoyable innocence of such a novel idea and use for general good will be automatically dispelled just as soon as we see "Budweiser" or some other corporate mfer hang his logo over our heads in soap bubbles. And you can bet there'll be some "agreement" that no peace-loving hippy/yuppy activist can cutely hang his peace symbol within a 25-mile radius of the general vicinity because his rights don't compare to the cash corporations throw down to jam their crap in our faces.
albeit there are many products that are just damn cool, I definitely agree, but what these mega corporations will do to reach and rummage through all our pockets via "advertising" is/can be way out of hand (jonbrooks). (...and aren't you tired of seeing enough Viagra, and Valtrex commercials? oh yeah...what's that "purple" pill??? fuh...I can see those soap bubbles now! heh...there is such a thing as too much...
additionally consumers and even kids are culled and nurtured to be mindless consumers through *years* of advertising through many popularized "favorite" tv shows. (And now advertisers are even moving into our movies! Watch out for all that sick product placement that does nothing to advance the artistry of film-making!) I find it despicable what a cash-science it really is...it's the only corporate "value" they have. M-O-N-E-Y. sad shite... -
Like we don't already see hundreds, even thousands of ads each day. Now they have to ruin the sky!?!
-
waste of soap.
vandalizing the sky.
what the hell is wrong with people.-

disgusting. the mad grab for money tramples everything in it's path. that's one of the reasons we're facing the mess that we're in now.
uncharted marketing territory that should remain untouched? our dreams. when the environment around you is littered with nothing but ads you can't keep their messages from seeping in. monetizing cloud gazing is the first step to invading that space.
like i said, disgusting. -
I think it's cute and clever. There's still plenty of sky to go around and imagination to be had.
-
Great, another avenue in life where my imagination is no longer required.

I think its neat! I think if your imagination is stunted by something as trivial as a fake cloud, then its your imagination thats lacking! Its not like they are taking all the natural clouds out of the sky.
I would prefer to see it used more in an artsy way than just for advertising though.-

could it be time to reignite my long-dormant dream of becoming a professional skywriter?
-
KittyRocks, my imagination has been stunted ever since I was pushed in front of a moving truck.

Another reason not to enjoy the thing we call life. It's great that we can just lie around and let life be created for us now.

Even though I think advertising agencies are going too far, I really don't have much room to say anything. I work at Hallmark, ha.
-
this sucks
-
my only concern is that.. i hope it doesnt harm the environment... i mean, what if in the long run this flogo thing has bad effects...
kinda like vaporizer from the movie, envy. "where does the poop go to??" it vaporized poop but killed a horse.
who knows? maybe birds will eat it and get poisoned. dun dun dun...-

Resemble clouds, but they look kinda crappy.
nice idea, and good to see they got a decent symbol in the sky haha
hmmm, maybe its ANOTHER way of making us think what people want. Is there anywhere advertisers wont go :S -
I prefer my skies relatively advertisement free, I get enough of that crap on the ground. Soon they'll be low orbital satellites beaming ads on the night sky and you know someone will want to carve a huge logo on the moon.

wow everbody chill.....advertisers have always used technology first to get there points across....dont get me wrong but i live in a city and i cannot walk across the street without seeing an advertisement slung up by a huge corporate monster or a band trying to get people to thier show...to me this is no different than looking up at the goodyear blimp or fireworks on fourth of july...personally i think it would be neat to be driving to a festival and seeing a huge arrow pointing the way...but hey thats me i like billboards commercials and get off on guerilla marketing.....
shocktrauma is the way-

Unfortunately, I don't think the bombardment is going to stop anytime soon. I recently was in Rome and was sitting in on this Ancient Roman Empire class on the Flavian Emperors and what they did for PR and advertising was no less crazy than what's going on in the 2008 Presidential Campaign. The best thing that we can do as individuals is figure out how to relax and keep ourselves balanced inside the chaos of the world we live in. And I'm not promoting apathy either, if you don't believe in something, don't support or encourage the behavior. Boycott, the products that are advertising in the clouds...if you truly "be the change" you want to see, people will listen.
Don't worry about what other people think either. If you truly want to see things change, start with yourself.
