The Los Angeles Times reports that Los Angeles County supervisors passed a law on Tuesday stating that LA taco trucks can stay parked in one spot for no more than one hour.
The law is in response to the complaints of some merchants that taco trucks cut into their profits. Because taco trucks cost less money to run, they can sell tacos for a better price. One taco truck owner says, "They can try to move us, but we're not going to go. What are they going to do, take us all to jail?"

How are taco trucks culturally significant? I'm not an Los Angelian so I wouldn't know. Are those hot dog stands culturally significant? I ate at one of those. It gave me the runs.
On the legislation: I think that it was pushed by those merchants that say "taco carts cut into profits". Since they have more money, they prolly have the means to meet with officials. Or, meat with them, heheheh.
Carne asada is not a crime, but that damn hot dog should've been.-

This is an outrage! Taco Truck owners are small, independent businesses that will have a hard time surviving if constantly on the move. How can a supervisor named Molina participate in such heinous action?

They have taco trucks where I live, and as long as they stay generally away from schools, I'm cool with them. Perhaps they should reform the taco truck system, instead of abolishing it, because everyone just wants a taco.

Mobile taquerias are great additions to any community. In the Seattle area, several taco trucks -- and buses -- serve up good food and many are long-established in local neighborhoods, as they probably are in Los Angeles. How can the city of Los Angeles legislate against taco trucks from doing business if their business is popular and profitable? Let's go get some tacos!

Having lived in East L.A., the taco trucks at 3 in the morning, we're more than a excuse to sneak out of the house for a sec. What really kills it, is a means to put food on the table. When all avenues for makin' a buck in this system of false entitlement options out, the reality is the same for everyone. Because of expansion plans for the Metro Subway to go through ELA, construction has cut traffic to a knarled knot of confusion. Alot of the businesses have changed more and more to fit mainstrem society, and it's genderfication is affected by Skid Row. Continuously viewed as a walking zoo of human oddity in despora. The people responsible for getting up at 3 and 4 in the morning, drag their friends and family into the business of preping the food, renting the truck and planning their routes for the day. Many have kids that are trying to go to college, in hopes to bringing good fortune to the parents' that sacrifed daily. There are no days off. Many of todays' resturants, were grown from such small enterprises, that even Hillary Clinton ate a King Taco. This place has mad history, so check it out. But this is a long dream that now faces determined legislation to kill it. First it was cruising, now this. And the only thing creepier than knowing the states deficit falls on the backs of its working class poor, is not knowing this as forced assimilation for a purpose. Long live the Taco Truck! Roach Coach dining at it's best!!!

i have family that used to make a living from taco trucks Aka "Roach Coach" and it gave them a head start in this new country.
Its a part of LA culture!!! -
im all for tacos.. and trucks.. and taco trucks
but one time, somebody i know found a bloody band aid in a taco. ewwww. maybe just inspect them for sanitation.

Good get these roach coahes off the street. Qulity food that won't make you sick, is what I want. There are some health issues to be concerned about.

roach coaches (yes ... that is the endearing name angelenos use) have some of the best hash food around ... its not just taco's ... the burritos and random sandwiches most serve are perfect for lunch.
the worst part i see in this whole thing is this is totally against free market principals ... the local merchants are faced with better/cheaper/faster ... and respond by trying to outlaw the competition -
I would like to see the trucks stay on the streets but also be an example to the communities by going 'green', buying local,
maybe not organic -- but recycle their oil for their fuel, etc
