This artist in honduras held an art show.
His wall art was composed of dog food.
His title was "You Are What You Read"
He pulled a stray dog from the street and tied him to the wall.
Provided no food or water, and left to starve.
Onlookers observed the starving dog for several days until the dog met his death.
The artist was awarded first prize and invited back for the next show.

  • It's one thing for a creature to die from the natural cycles of the world, but for entertainment? That is a sickly infantile way of thought.
However, perhaps this little dog's torture and loss of life may remind you not to look the other way when you see someone suffering severly...
I did sign the petition. http://www.petitiononline.com/ea6gk/petition.html

  • I lived in S. America for many years and I find this 'outrage' hysterical. People in different cultures think of dogs as a source of food and dogs have a very different place in their cultures.

I would be more outraged at this art display if I didn't have a hamburger for dinner. Then again 'you are what you read'. Very interesting.

  • the implications are astounding, 'what next' you ask? well it's obvious: watching an orphan child die... perhaps followed by groups of individuals dying; and of course the coup d' gras: 'onlookers' can get interactive by directly engaging in the mistreatment and even abuse and death of bound captives. hey, it's art folks.
-that this supposed 'artist' can even get a showing is simply ridiculous.
it reminds me of the experiments by milgram and zimbardo that show ordinary people will distance themselves emotionally from a situation if they perceive an authority figure is "in control".
-douchebaggery reigns supreme in our time. :^(

  • I am an artist, and my preferred form of expression would have been to organize a group of people to get that dog out of there. He would not "allow" the dog to be freed, but a large enough unified crowd could have overruled him. I'd have to at least try.
It does not matter that dogs may be eaten in other societies. I do not think this is typically the case in Honduras, anyway. Even if I am mistaken about that, cruelty is cruelty. It is not necessary to deprive an animal just because it will die anyway. Such actions are usually motivated by greed.
We will all die anyway, at some point.
I can possibly see a message that people are starving while there really is enough food in the world- they just don't have access to it. But there had to be another way to make the point.
