Carbon offsetting schemes are designed to invest in renewable energy to offset greenhouse gas emissions. In Uganda, the Uganda Wildlife Authority is one of the agencies that has taken advantage of the carbon market through reforestation projects in national parks. Critics say the projects have forced people off their land, while the UWA says the eviction process was part of an effort to secure the national park prior to the offsetting project.
