This is a great direction for Bangladesh to be going in. They're showing us the way forward. Independence for impoverished women in rural areas is crucial, and what better way to achieve better standards of life than using the sun's natural power? SHSs can be used to light up homes, shops, fishing boats etc. They can also be used to charge mobile phones, run TVs, radios and cassette players. All that and for no monthly bills, no fuel cost, very little repair, maintenance costs, and easy installation. Woo hoo!

CARE.org says it best: Seeking to empower women is one of the greatest investments, because, "Equipped with the proper resources, and given the opportunity, women have the power to change their world. Women are the center of their families, families are the center of communities, and communities are the center of the world... women because they are disproportionately affected by poverty (making up 75 percent of the poorest people in the world), but also because they are crucial to fighting it. In short, empowering women can be a crucial first step toward lasting change in the world's poorest countries."
