Chinese demonstrate against media distortion outside Parliament in London
Several hundred people were demonstrating outside Parliament today showing their anger at the media distortion they perceive to be happening in much of the western media. Leaflets handed out at the demonstration stated 'Today we are here to oppose Media Distortion and Media Fabrication in the recent events. We are here in a quest for objectivity, fairness and justice.'

Many of the banners seemed directed solely at the BBC and its coverage of the Tibet issue with many people wearing masks over their mouth with 'BBC' written on them.

  • One protester described the march as "to show the support of Tibetans and other supporters in the UK for the people inside Tibet who have taken the brave and bold decision to rise up against the Chinese, who have occupied their country."

"We know some have been killed and hundreds, perhaps thousands have been arrested."

It looks like Gordon Browns meeting with the Dali Lama needs to have something concrete come out of it, rather than just being a photo opportunity.

  • It seems from scanning the internet there was hardly any media coverage of this - though it looks like the BBC made the effort and have burried the story somewhere not clearly linked to - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/manchester/7356172.s...

Seems they are making some attempt at trying to show their balanced, objective reporting. I guess they are not used to being challenged so directly.

  • The coverage I found of the story suggests that it wasn't a protest in support of a free Tibet at all, but rather in defence of China and against the demonization of it in the Western media.

One protester complained: "All we want is more people to listen to our voice and Chinese people's voices because they are only interviewing the Tibetan separatists."

A letter addressed to BBC director general Mark Thompson accused the BBC of "tarnishing and demonising China". The letter is signed "from the Chinese community in Manchester".

After the rally, protesters marched to Manchester Town Hall and spoke to the media about promoting the spirit of the Beijing Olympics. Protesters thought coverage had been mainly about pro-Tibet demonstrators.

"It was as if the torch was just struggling its way through London and how it was all about how people were so resentful of it, and how people were trying to grab the torch or stop the torch relay."

  • "Angola will always be ours", "The thirteen colonies will always be ours", "Poland will always be ours", "Kosovo will always be ours", "East Timor will always be ours"... history shows why the Chinese are scared. Everyone loses territory eventually.

But Tibet is not the only sore point. China lost half of Mongolia, still occupies the other half, and there are other "provinces" in dispute (they claim Tawain for instance).

  • Tibet is one part of China since hundreds of years ago! I suggest you reading some history of China, and find the truth by yourselves, because the Media is distorting.
Taiwan is also one part of China. Do not be like a fool! Please read some books about it.
China is becoming more and more powerful. It is changing everyday, I suggest you going to China and you will find that China is as mordern as America.

  • You people here don't know the truth about China, the truth about Tibet, and the truth about Taiwan.

  • Foreign repoters have gone to Tibet, they find a peaceful Tibet there, they find the truth, but unfortunatelly they are not allowed to report those truth. The media want to distort the truth.
