  • That's so sad. I have a dog too and it's like my baby. She goes almost everywhere with me, even when I have to travel. I mean I wouldn't leave her for nothing behind.

  • that's terrible. a dog is a family member. it must be tough to give up your dog and know that he/she might not get a second chance :(

  • I was unaware of this staggering, and needless, crisis. Why cannot we give these animals that we proport to love, any plan or effort in relocation, instead of sitting on their apathetic, deserving, 'tail'.

I would like to become available in helping with this crisis. I WILL do all that I can, although unemployed and having 3 pets (2 dogs, one cat) already).

PLASE, GOD, PLEASE have mercy if ou can, if you call yourself religious or spiritual or even humanistic, help these innocents.

I think that God (or Goddess or whoever), will judge us by how we give love, sheter, affection, protection, to the innocent souls within the sphere of our loving intent and empathy.

You will be rewarded here, in this life, with so much pure love and loyalty that your experience of the entire depth of meaning. love, and kinship will open doors into spirituality, and show you 'why we are here, why we go on with each day's burdons and pain.

Please have mercy on them. Just look into their hopeless yet infinitely love-giving eyes at any shelter, humane society,, or rescue operation. Just check the web.

Love to you and all your charitable deeds,
    Bernd

  • This is such a sad story. There is a similar problem up here in the Boston area with so many students adopting cats for their apartments some are left behind when moving to a new apartment or when moving home and Mom or Dad doesn't want a new pet in the house. The result is a huge feral cat community running wild.

  • I've worked with these kinds of peoplebringing them in. Please note, it's not all thier fault, the ownershave crisis with money, aswe;reall run crudely, at one point, theycould afford it all for them and thier ankimal, then, politically they can't. It just must be hard, like giving up a family member because you can't affod basic needs they deserve.

  • This just goes to show that Americans are living beyond their means in all aspects of their lives.
The same people who are abandoning their pets when they leave their homes will probably go out and get a smaller pet that will fit into their new apartment.
    And the cycle goes on.....
As long as there is cred-debt available people will live beyond their means....

  • It seems no one wants to take responsibility for anything anymore. People are spending beyond their means and pets are needlessly caught up in the aftermath.
Everyone I know from my generation seems to feel as if they shouldn't have to work hard for the lifestyle they led and the future they want. They feel as if they deserve it. Unfortunately, with this logic, I think things are going to get worse before they get better. Credit will be overused and the national debt will only increase.
More people need to educate themselves before they spend and before they pay for everything using credit.

  • This is so sad. I can't imagine having to give up my dog under any circumstances. I think I saw on the Today Show that there's an organization in Chicago that is holding onto dogs for people who have had foreclosures, and will return them once they get back on their feet.
