Amid a citywide building boom, 13 people have died in construction accidents this year, one more than the total for all of 2007.
Now Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he is not satisfied with the city’s Department of Buildings and wants to know what went wrong.
The deaths include seven people who were killed last month when a crane toppled over and a window installer who fell nine stories last week when his safety strap failed.
