"Oscar the cockatoo has been dubbed "The World's Ugliest Bird." Oscar has lived at Florida's humane society for the past 12 years. She has a disease called beak and feather disease. It causes her feathers to grow all wonky and irritating, so she plucks them out. She still has feathers on her head, because she can't reach those. Eventually the disease will affect her beak and nails."

uh, gross.

  • I had a Kackeriki parakeet die from that. It's so awful,it's not fair to give thewm this label. She may die. likemy beloved Sadie, but her mate has gotton help in time, Im pleased to say, Jengo's atleast one of the rare survivors to have ever have gotton it!

If you think you may have got a bird with this disease, or want to knowhow to prevent it, just send mea message, I'll try to help, it's just horrific to do nothing but watch them go like that when it's too late.

  • This bird is not ugly, just cause it hasn't got any feathers it looks different. It's not fair to give it this label, would anybody call humans ugly if they had a disorder.
    Callie2
  • Uh...people call other people ugly all the time. Not sayin' it's right....but they definitely do.

  • Just kill it.
    Humdrum
  • Reverse evolution. The dinosaurs are coming back!
    Hawkmang
  • It's NOT evolution. Beak and Feather disease is a virus, perminant and deadly, it hangs around even when the poor bird is dead.

Humdrum, you discust me. You make me sick to say such a ignorent, thoughtless thing of spite. Look at her, Oscar is'nt suffering too much, trust me, she's very lucky, just because she now looks less decoretive, whick I suppose would be all YOU'D want, does'nt mean she should be killed. I SHOULD say, you don't look very attractive yourself, and and you should die?! See, sounds wrong and sickening, does'nt it, NEVER talk like that, it's inhumane.

As you can see, she is supporting her body without fail, harmful forms of beak and feather disease, they grow scrawney, they eat non-stop, but it still happens, until, for a while, they can'tsupport thier own body and head, loose all grip, and die horrribly.

Hudrum, if you choose to carry on to say such unessisary, taken insults I'll flag.

  • you mean "devilution"??

    that's the worst kind?!!!

  • You're all beginning tosound as bad as ridiculous YouTube commenters now. If it was a human, severily ill and looked terrible for it, no way would you do it, because they feel pain and thier lifespan is shortened, well, guess what? She's no different, she feels horrific pain, you of course have no idea about it, and have no right tocomment on it this way. If you had to put up with this every day like I do, you'd have your heads smacked into the right direction. At longlast.

  • By the way, is there any chance in taking the tag 'wierd' off of there? This is not wierd, but dangerously common.

  • ? Why the heckdo you reckon I'm religious? I don't believe religion is for the better, it causes more hatrid upon all.

Look, there is NO reason to kill someones family member (or 'pet') just beause she's 'ugly'. How would YOU like it if I stuck a needle into you and watched you die just for having some kind of small, lucky versionof an illness? Imagine it, seriously.

  • steadward...

It was not meant as an "insult," and it was not out of "spite."
    Get over it.

I was being sarcastic - but only halfway.
It looks like that bird isn't exactly enjoying the highest quality of life.
If "she feels horrific pain," then I say it'd probably be merciful to end her life.
Which was my "thoughtless" thought process.

I didn't say it about a starving child in Sudan, and never would.
In my opinion/ world view, birds are birds, and people are people.
    I eat birds, personally.
Not that I'd eat that one.

Don't threaten me with a "flagging" just because I don't adhere to your religious views, and please keep your knee from jerking so freely.
You assumed quite a bit about me just from 3 words.

  • i'd knit it a nice little suit to wear .

  • No, she's very happy really. She just looks bad with loss of feathers, I go to veternary school and when they have beak and feather disease while incurable, they're really struggleing for at least a month, quiet, timid even when not normally. She looks nothing like them, I suppose you'd just need to meet the differenced HumDrum, then you'd see what I mean, not saying you should be just like me, but you'll notice she's actually happy and healthy, even though to anyone seeing it for the first time would not think so, see it more often, and you'll know she's happy and will have and deserves a long valued life. I have a Kackeriki parakeet like her, he's now taken just a few weeks medication, and he's more alive than I ever saw him! He's so sweet, socialable, smart, energized and affectionate, you'd never think of putting him down jus because he has a few scars on his body.
