  • No worries! I've done that since I was 9! I get sickand seriously react way too badly forthe slightest smell (STENCH) of someone else's meat.

  • At the risk of sounding behind the times, what is 'earth day'? And why should I forsake meat?

  • Yep. Done. 10+ years veg or close to it. People still don't make the connection between their diet and the earth, but we're getting there.

  • animals die, we breed them to die, for me to eat. its natural and i'll buy extra meat on earth day just to spite people

  • I live in Florida and I’m surrounded by nature in all its varied forms so yah go earth day! But what no meat? I don’t get it, are you trying to slip extra little tidbits of your ideology into our shared appreciation of the Earth? I know there is a problem with how me manage our domestic livestock so you needn’t fill me up with that stuff(unless you know something that I don’t) What I really want to know if how is switching to greens beneficial to the environment? Its not like this whole green thing is a firmly established market with reputable outlets in every corner of the states, right? Doesn’t that stuff have to be shipped to our local stores, doesn’t that require the burning of fossil fuels? I love the earth, really I do, but can’t I just skateboard to my favorite café and munch on a Gyro without the shame?

  • This is a great article just for getting people to think about the issue. I'm on a college campus and am disappointed every day when I see countless trays rolling down the conveyor belt, at the cafeteria, covered in uneaten food. Its time to change our ways, for sure.

  • I'm sure we could feed most of the starving people in the world with what we throw away. It really bugs me when parents order full meals for kids in restaurants and the kid eats a couple of fries. I've seen countless numbers of untouched meals go into the garbage. Haven't these people ever heard of a doggy bag?

  • Hi Ricky,
To answer your questions, and they are good ones, may I direct you to a couple of articles which show clearly how our meat-based diet is really bad for the environment? That way you'll see it's not my "ideology" but facts. The articles are from NY Times and Reuters -- two news organizations that are not known for an extremist ideology. :)
Read them, clip them to Current, and come back and tell me what you think!

  • diode, not natural for humans to eat. Prove it. Make a kill with NO help, NO weapons, just your bear hands, and eat it raw. NO it's not buddie.

  • (alsotoothers, meat produces green house gases, real heavy on production)

  • Ok I didn’t know the agricultural market produces 1/5 of the pollution in the world. Yeah that really sucks. I did like how they provided a few easy ways to curb some of the pollution . Eating twenty percent less red meat is not that hard, especially if you’re one of those Americans that eat twice your necessary intake of meat. In the end the problem lies with these huge slaughter houses. They pollute and use way to much energy. http://www.auri.org/news/ainjul01/05page.htm This is an article about a dairy farm which converts cow manure into electricity and actually makes a profit. They completely recycle the manure which means nothing has to be dumped into our waterways. Very nice. I’ll have my medium rare steak with a side of self satisfaction tonight thank you.
