OTEC, or ocean thermal energy conversion, is an energy technology that converts solar radiation to electric power.
On an average day, 60 million square kilometers (23 million square miles) of tropical seas absorb an amount of solar radiation equal in heat content to about 250 billion barrels of oil. If less than one-tenth of one percent of this stored solar energy could be converted into electric power, it would supply more than 20 times the total amount of electricity consumed in the United States on any given day.

I'm for it, and it sounds like it is going to be one of many new technologies we can definitely hope for. I do have one question at the moment, what do the oceanographers have to say about it? For example, off shore wind mills are said to disrupt migrations of birds, i.e., birds hitting the fan. I am concerned that the ecosystem of the ocean on a vaste area possibly coral reefs, could be effected, which of course has bigger effects globally as a viable complete solution. Yes it produces a vast amount of power, but at what cost? too much of one thing may be bad for another. I still like the solar panels idea best, either in the desert or especially on business roof tops. :)
A Greenerfuture should be on everyone's minds. -
Well from where I come from(Aruba), we have been generating electricity through the process of distilling seawater. So we get to have clean water and also it provides the whole island with Electricity.
