A Brazilian priest trying to break a 19-hour record of most time spent floating with balloons in efforts to fund a spiritual rest stop for truckers in Paranagua, was swept away by hundreds of helium balloons and is now missing.

Search parties scan the Atlantic coast in hopes to find the man who was last spotted 30 miles from his launch point.

  • Uh oh, they've found a cluster of balloons floating around but no priest. Rescuers are hoping he's washed up on one of the nearby islands.

  • (@ Vierotchka) wow, thats amazing, I always wondered how it would be to use a cell phone from up above, maybe an airplane. not to mention around ballons. I can imagine the conversation (insert portugese here) "o hey this is the flying priest, well FYI my GPS is not quite functioning, by the way the view is amazing, okay, see you sometime soon, roger out"

yea pretty gutsy man though. seems like he was well prepared, well from what the article indicates. Hope he had seen Lost, Survivor, the amazing race and (what's that other show of the guy that claimed to be able to survive anything then people were saying he would stay at motel6 between shoots?)

  • It is I suppose a crazy stunt that went wrong. Hey, he said he wanted to see God or something along those lines. Hope God looks favourably on him since we all know what the scriptures say on self annihilation. Come on, he should have known the stunt was a sure ticket outta this existence.

  • They should have given him a pellet gun.

This is quite sad, and everyone making jokes about it, or wishing the pope dead, should be ashamed of themselves.

  • and followers of this faith continue to wonder why they are heckled...
  • The purpose of his attempt was to raise money to fund a spiritual rest-stop for truckers in Paranaguay. I don't find this story funny at all, and I hope they will find him alive and well very soon.

  • Wherever he's gone, I wonder if he's found the Wizard Of Oz?
