Hillary has been pounding Obama on his patriotism because of his association with Rev. Wright, Wright ’s association with Farrakhan, and Obama’s acquaintanceship with Bill Ayers. She was happy to accept the endorsement of Richard Mellon Scaife, the architect of the “vast right wing conspiracy though”.

Scaife ain't no terrorist, he's just a bored rich guy. I'm sure you can pick up better dirt than that on Clinton.
Unless of course, you're a Bill Ayers fan and you dislike Scaife just because he's rich (in which case you should dislike Obama because he's made millions from his books.)
Funny, I don't like Clinton much, but all these unfair attacks on her make me see that she's not as bad as I thought she was.-

WHY CAN'T PEOPLE ADMIT THAT THIS COUNTRY IS NOT PROGRESSIVE ENOUGH TO ELECT A BLACK PERSON. I AM A LIBERAL BUT LIVE IN A VERY VERY CONSERVATIVE STATE AND THERE IS NO WAY THE WHITE'S HERE WOULD EVER VOTE FOR A BLACK PERSON THEY STILL BELIEVE THEY SHOULD BE PICKING COTTON, AND THESE ARE PEOPLE THAT CLAIM THEY ARE GOD FEARING PEOPLE YEAH RIGHT. BUT THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHY I SUPPORT.
-
That's very sad to hear allirbs, very sad.
-
I REALIZE THAT IS SAD BUT HERE IN THIS COMMONWEALTH IT'S TRUE, THAT IS NOT HOW I FEEL BECAUSE IF HILLARY DOESN'T MAKE IT I WOULD VOTE FOR OBAMA, I'M JUST SAYING DEEP DOWN THERE IS A BIT OF RACISM IN ALOT OF PEOPLE EVEN THOUGH THEY SAY THEY ARE NOT BUT WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO THE NITTY GRITTY IT IS TRUE ON BOTH SIDES NOT JUST WHITES BUT BLACKS ALSO.

Airlibs,
In 1984, on the floor of the convention, all of us held hands when Jesse Jackson led us in prayer.
Although I was not elected as a delegate to support him, at one point, I held up his sign and waved it.
I respect Jesse Jackson, I respect Mayor Nutter of Philadelphia and I respect other Americans who just happen to be African American.
Mr. Obama has his own problems and I firmly believe that's what your seeing here, not a rejection of African Americans but a rejection of this one man period.
If he would have chosen to live his life a bit differently, if he had chosen to stay in the Senate for a while and become a leader especially on some national concern, he would have had my support.-

that sounds like cronyism Patrick. all over again...
I can hear George Carlin saying "happens to be" =D
and what do you "happen to be" Mr. Murray?
perhaps "whites" can use speculation of Obama's relationships as some "legitimate" cause to reject his leadership as somehow inappropriate, but Hillary Clinton is a veritable scumbag. The Clintons are more and more becoming known for what they are. -
Hillary has sold out the people of the United States in the Senate in matters of health care, supposedly part of her platform, and she WILL do it again...

I am a registered Georgian Republican caucasion who voted for Barack in the Georgia primary earlier this year. I despise Hillary Clinton and all she and her husband stand for and do not want the two of them back in or anywhere near the Whitehouse and the Presidency again.
However I will not vote for Barack in the general Election assuming he is the Dem nominee unless he absolutely quits protecting his former acquaintances such as Wright and Ayers and others and absolutely dissassociates himself from them and their terrible lies and actions against this great country in this race for the Whitehouse. To distance himself from their past remarks and actions as not on my watch is not enough for most Americans. To re-capture my support and my vote Senator Obama must compete against McCain at least at the level of an unquestionable Patriot. To say you are Patriotic and this country is the only one that would allow someone such as you to run for President does not cut it. You must place your hand over your heart when in the presence of the American Flag, Star Spangled banner being played or sung as youngsters and basball players and all patriotic Americans do, when the Pledge of Allegiance is recited, as well as wear the American Flag lapel pin (before Hillary does) and especially when you have had the honor to have been presented such a pin by a disabled VETERAN wit his only request that you should wear it. Freedom is not free and this veteran has paid a price so you can wear that American Flag lapel pin so you must wear it or lose votes because its absence sends a loud message to patriotic Americans across this great Nation.
Thank you for allowing me to provide this response.
LW--A Vietnam Veteran who wants to support you for your vision but not until you wear your patriotism on your sleeve! -
dear sir
first let me thank you for your service to this country my father served in both wwII and korea so I do not take my freedom forgranted, however if you look back when president Clinton was in office the economy was good we had no defeict and we weren't at war with the wrong country. Let me say that if hillary was associated with the kkk or some radical group like that people would be screaming for her head, how came obama explain away 20 yr association with a man and not come away with some of his influences no one can be that gulliable. but I truely do not understand the out and out hatred of hillary come on she's got brass balls and I don't think she'd take that much crap look new yorkers are no easy group to win over. -
airbirddog: all that "questionable patriotism/Obama" CRAP has been put to bed quite some time ago actually. They were lies. MORE Clinton lies I suspect. No more lies, eh? ;)
PBS' 'Anatomy of a Smear
Sorting Fact from Fiction in the 2008 Election Campaign' should help to ease your fears...
"Smear campaigns are nothing new in U.S. politics, but during the 2008 presidential race, the Internet has assumed a bigger role in transmitting misinformation and negative claims about candidates. The lightning speed at which these rumors spread and the lack of scrutiny they receive threaten to seriously undermine public discourse. The good news is that this campaign season the public has access to a slew of fact-checking websites, including FactCheck.org, PolitiFact.com, and Snopes.com that are squelching Internet rumors and separating fact from fiction.
To illustrate how a rumor based on falsehoods can spread, NOW takes a look at one claim that has received a lot of media attention recently: the "Barack Obama is Muslim" rumor. This unsubstantiated claim originated from chain e-mails that started circulating some time in 2006. They contend that Obama is a Muslim (false) and that Obama attended a radical Muslim school (false). There's also a more recent rumor that Obama did not have his hand over his heart during the Pledge of Allegiance..."
basically, it's all "Hillary-inspired" BS only meant to smear Obama.
see for yourself...I had to as well. I thought it was just too incredible that we could have someone like even begin to run for president. Turns out that's exactly what it was..."too incredible"...and Obama is probably the better candidate of all three running, with the exception of those that were completely ignored in mainstream media [buncha lozer bassturdz like FAUX News]...a few of them were probably a LOT better than all of these three put together! =D
PBS NOW goes on to say:
"One of the most frustrating things about rumors on the Internet is that it is often impossible to pinpoint their origin, particularly since chain e-mails can come from multiple people. Another challenge is that they circulate under the radar for so long.
"But some websites are working to combat rumors with truth and correction. Politifact.com features a "Truth-o-meter" section that examines who laid claim to a rumor, who the rumor is about, the extent to which the rumor is true and what was alleged by the informant. The Truth-o-meter recently dispelled the Obama "hand over his heart rumor" by giving it a "false" rating.
"Only when major media outlets take it upon themselves to verify a rumor before repeating it or invest resources in debunking it, as CNN did with the Obama-is-Muslim rumor, will the power of unfounded rumors and smear campaigns dissipate." [You'd think those phukn bassturdz we rely on for "news" would give it to us straight, wouldn't you! the a$$wholez]
go CNN? or just stay Current =P lol -
and well...there is Nader too =) *I* shouldn't ignore him. He might just get my vote as the *real* man to "clean friggin' house!"
-
I wasn't questioning his flag wearing or not what i say is if hillary was associated with some kkker everyone would be screaming especially the black community. but you can't tell me in 20yrs of going to this man's church this kind of remarks haven't been said before no one can be that blind. hate her or love her she has given young girls the understanding that yes a woman can run for president. and yes obama has won alot of states but not the big ones, ca, ny , oh pa etc what about that factor.
-
uh... allirbs, it was 'birddog (or whatever) who had that misinformation. that response was for him primarily.
i don't think race is an issue, although it always appears to be something Hillary supporters look too pettily to exploit in fear unfortunately.
and boy is it a stretch to think that just because you regularly attend a church that you condone or consent to all the sentiments/actions ever expressed by church leadership. that's like saying because you are legally subject to the laws and opinions that government suffers upon you (like the Patriot Act and all that Hitlerish Homeland 'Security' bs), that you or I agree with everything they do (and we don't), isn't it??? buck fush =D AND McCain! Hell I can't find that much agreement with my own mother and she's known me all my life =P lol -
Echoz,
Hey, when was it EVER the pin???
It IS about what you do with your right hand during the pledge or when the National Anthem is played...
Now, I did see that photo that shows Hillary with her hand in the correct position and Obama just standing at attention.
I also read that one of his staffers said that sometimes he places his hand over his heart and sometimes he does not.
My question is WHY?
You know, this is not tradition..it happens to be the law and it's something that we all learn in Kindergarten too:)
It's the first kind of patriotism that we learn. After all, both the flag and our National Anthem are symbols of our country and us.
So, the question remains:
Why doesn't he act accordingly?
Especially when he is a sitting United States Senator and most especially when he is running for President?
Sounds to me like an error in judgement..something so basic too.
And if he didn't know that he should why didn't his staff tell him?
Sorry, but I don't understand...-

Hello Mr. Murray,
Almost everyone it seems has seen that picture by now. It's created a lot of distraction from real issues, whether you support Obama or not, and it is misleading. If we find disagreement with Obama, it's necessary to find something more substantive. Check the (true) facts. http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/sliming_obama.h...
I'll quote some of it for you: "The photograph was taken during a "steak-fry" for Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa on Sept. 16, 2007. What is pictured is the singing of the national anthem, not a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. For proof, see this video taken by ABC News during the event.
http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=3759803
"And for proof that Obama has no problem reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, check this video of C-SPAN’s recording of the Senate’s morning business, with Obama presiding, on June 21, 2007. Or this one from Feb. 1, 2007.
A point not raised in this e-mail: Some have complained that Obama should have placed his hand over his heart during the singing of the anthem, as pictured in the Time photo. It is true that the U.S. Code states that "all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart." But the word "should" rather than "shall" makes that a recommendation and not a legal requirement. To confirm, we spoke with Anne Garside, director of communication for the Maryland Historical Society – home of the original manuscript of "The Star-Spangled Banner," and asked if anyone could be punished for not placing their hands over their hearts during the national anthem. She quickly replied, "Oh, of course not," adding that "there is no obligation to put your hand over your heart." Garside told us she has been asked numerous times about this rumor and finds the controversy to have "gotten a little bit ridiculous."
*****end of quote ********
Honestly, I guess I just don't know much about the "pin." And I'd never read that his staffers mentioned he'd "sometimes/sometimes not." You should cite where you read that "information." Possibly it could be misinformation as well, though I wouldn't automatically assume that either.
To be completely honest, Obama has not been my first choice as candidates even like Edwards and Paul have gotten much more of my honest attention, but I still wonder who the heck Obama really is myself...hadn't ever heard of him until a few months ago. He sounds great at times, and sometimes like a basketball coach LOL to me...but it would be nice to learn what he really stands for.
Thanks for the healthy skepticism. I really believe we'll have to watch our "posteriors" whoever is elected into office, with the maverick style of leadership we've had with Bush in office these last years...
"We are forever desperate to believe that this time the government is telling us the truth."--Sydney Schanberg, Former NY Times reporter
