Hey Ryan. Another interesting individual beautifully portrayed.
Makes me want to know more about Duke. Any idea whether he's published?

It's amazing and sad that natural remedies can be just as effective as advanced drugs, and yet so few people know about it. Sure, you often hear about natural remedies, but I never hear that they're as effective as the prescription drugs. Hopefully with pods like these the word gets out.

The problem is exactly as stated in the pod, lobbying in congress.

You can't patent a plant, but you CAN patent a drug. Patents = Profits.

This is the same problem that we have with plants like Cannabis, it can be used to treat a wide variety of health problems - possibly even cancer, with minimal side effects. (Munchies anyone?) Problem is, it can't be patented and anyone can just grow it in their yard. Which is why we've got dumb ideas like Marinol.

    Very interesting!!!!!!!
Money is the cause of so many problems.
The health system is truly broken.

  •

The answer is simple - pharmaceutical companies can't patent or make money on herbs - so why would they bother testing them? The FDA is in their pocket, so why would they push for trials? Follow the money.

We need to slow down on the pills and really look at what makes them helpful. It seems to be an overwhelming trend these days, where we just want simplicity and ease instead of quality and time. Plants are where its at

I'm always interested to know what natural remedies can solve health problems. I think we rely on prescriptions too much. Some ailments don't need to be treated with a pill or syrup, but can be treated with a wash, tea, or salve made at home.

His research is well published, he's collected over 90,000 species of plants and published something like 40 books. One of his most useful/popular books is, "The Green Pharmacy"

    thanks for watching,
    Ryan

Its incredibly important to pursue herbal remedies... Americans are beginning to naturally over-medicate... I have to admit to this... however, herbal remedies, for the most part, are healthier than man made concoction.

Ryan - stellar pod. I'd watch a full length feature of this material. Any plans?

I am currently raising money for a feature documentary on rainforest culture. I'll use some of Duke's insights, but it'll be more of an expansion of the pod I did entitled,
"Icaros: Spirit Songs of the Amazon."

If you know anyone interested in donating send them to: der.org/donate
and have them look for "Icaros"

    thanks for your interest!

Very subtle inclusion of Ayahuaska preparation. Could just about taste it, a nod of respect to the root of all plant knowledge.
