Satisfactory? It really depends where you live. One block from traffic can make a lots of difference. I really want to know how local News TV keep pulling this one for Years. Now with you it is the weather and traffic. Air quality in the San Francisco Bay Area, satisfactory???

  • I've always thought so. The ocean breeze comes in and blows all the pollution down to San Jose where it gets trapped by the mountains. Now, There is some dirty air. Of course on the freeways and busy main streets the air is dirty as they are anywhere there is heavy traffic, but for the most part the air is amazingly clean especially for a big city.
  • The Bay Area is one of the most affected by China's pollution, due to certain wind currents that cross the Pacific.

So chalk that up next to the fact that we walk among the exhaust from cars' tailpipes all day long, and I'd be willing to bet that someone from, say, rural Ireland, would be appalled at the stuff we call air.

  • Well, Stephen, Texas would get downright giddy on the Bay Area's air. I've never seen such dirty air, with no place to go. I have to have windows open (or I feel like I can't breathe) and when the dust settles it is on everything. It is so bad that the rubber gaskets around outdoor light fixtures don't last more than a year. All the plastic handles on my garden tools fall to pieces after a year or two tops. The sidewalls of your tires get crazed looking like very old tires long before they are worn out. The Bay Area air is much cleaner. Now let's get China interested in electric cars. Maybe out auto makers would start cranking them out. Besides in the Spring nothing smells as sweet as Golden Gate Park.
  • maybe i'll take a walk throug the GG park this weekend. I live only 3 blocks from it but i usually head in the opposite direction, to the cliffs and the Presidio.

  • You lucky bum. I'm so homesick I could die. Just smell the grass and bushes and enjoy it for me. Go early while it is still kind of damp and smells the best. I swear even the sunshine has a smell in the spring there.
  • The fact that people do not act is because they cannot see the reality of things. Once a very smart guy told me that part of AIDs cames from pollution. Initially, I had hard time to conceive that. On the next day, reflecting about it, I realized that he was right about it. Think about all the cars and motorcycles with modified mufflers expelling twice or three times pollution into the air and in addition making that noise disturbing everyone around. Come on people, wake up!

  • I am sure one day people will gasp in horror at the idea that we used to pollute the very air we breathe.
