In this article, "Chinese officials will meet representatives of the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism whom China blames for a wave of unrest, Xinhua news agency reported on Friday, citing official sources."
China is hopefully serious about this and not worrying mainly about their pocketbook as the Olympics get closer there. Peace is important throughout the world and the number one way of coming to this is to forget about your pocketbook and look at the human side. Many riches will come your way in many ways when this is addressed first. Then it will flow for everyone.

Would be great if this was the beginning of some kind of resolution to the matter. All the people round the world will not have protested in vain and we'll be able to enjoy the Olympics for what its suppose to be about.

Could we have a bigger picture of the Dalai Lama please?
-
on reading the article it is clear that the chinese government does not appreciate the worlds attitude about their illegal occupation of tibet. and released a press release to save face but then didnt take the time to even make the lie of "talking" real.
"A spokesman for the Dalai Lama, who lives in exile in India, said he had not received any communication from China about a meeting and China's Foreign Ministry said it had no details."
China denounces the Dalai Lama, who fled Tibet after a failed 1959 uprising against Communist rule, as a traitor and has accused him of orchestrating the unrest, a charge the 72-year-old Nobel laureate denies.
But Tibet has become a flashpoint for anti-China protests that have dogged the Olympic torch relay around the world and has led to calls for state leaders to boycott the Beijing Games, which open on August 8.
"It is hoped that through contact and consultation, the Dalai side will take credible moves to stop activities aimed at splitting China, stop plotting and inciting violence and stop disrupting and sabotaging the Beijing Olympic Games so as to create conditions for talks," the official was quoted as saying.
REALLLLYYYYY???? his holiness inciting and plotting violence and riot? does that translate as planning peaceful protest that the chinese government in its infant like pride MUST respond with anger and violence to? .-

Illegal occupation? Illegal to who - it's been part of their territory for about 800 years!! Who declared it was not part of their territory?
Peaceful? I believe it was a riot in which several Han Chinese were killed and their businesses burnt - I think you will find that is what they responded to, but perhaps you'd like to believe that is a peaceful protest. -
Where will this meeting take place? In a dark room with no windows? Also, I don't think anyone is going to enjoy the olympics when they are dying from toxic air.

I suspect more propoganda... I am curious though...Why, after we fought communisim for sooo long, did we in-debt ourselves to the Chinese? Hello, T-bills? Borrowing money from them to bolster our economy? What is really going on HERE?
-
Were I a close friend, I would advise him to publicly meet government officials and say nothing. They can't twist unspoken words.

Lol, Merge.
China needs a shrink. -
No offence Dalai or WorldPeaceTV,
However that superhuge picture is kind of VERY SCARY. i can only believe though that this meeting is to save face. China is so for the Beijing Olympics that they want nothing to stand in their way and if it means staring at the Dalai Lama (hopefully he wont be as large as in the picture) for a few hours and nodding and pretending they care they are all for it. Save the persecuting for after the olympics. Duh!

Looking at the Dalai Lama's astrological chart (he's a home loving Cancer BTW), our experts tell us that the "transiting Saturn in Virgo is weighing heavily on the 72-year-old" and that any talks with the Chinese are likely to be "stymied and frustrating."
On the plus side, since Saturn also rules accomplishment, we're told that "these talks may ultimately create a stronger foundation from which to negotiate Tibet's freedom." Oops sorry, since freedom is a dirty word as far the Chinese government is concerned when used in reference to Tibet, perhaps those pesky, all-seeing stars are just predicting some form of "autonomy" (a word The People's Republic seems marginally more comfortable with). For now, we'll just have to wait and see how the fortune cookie crumbles.-

for actual time line of independence and occupation for tibet pleases see.
http://www.freetibet.org/info/facts/fact18.html
and are you saying that because some opportunist took advantage of a demonstration for cover to do their foul deeds that somehow his holiness is responsible that he somehow foresaw and encouraged this??!!??!
and following your logic of who conquered who when, i guess since the Tibetans first conquered the china tang capitol territory in 763 that china should surrender its rights and let tibet take dictatorial control of its territories?-
