Clearly not played...

After viewing the Info Mania Tech bit on the Clearplay DVD player I was motivated to go to the Clearplay website, mainly to see what the company was all about. I got more than I expected. Obviously more & more people in our country are looking for ways to dumb themselves down and censor artistic creativity. Cutting out violent or sexually explicit scenes not only is an insult to the artists that create these cinematic pieces, it is blatantly hypocritical to cut out parts of a film. I make this observation based on the fact that if you find a part of a film offensive due to moral or religious affiliation, then the viewing of the entire film should be offensive as well. I don't agree with all the violence in the media, but cutting out the scenes that are violent only leads to prolong the problem of violence. By denying or pretending that it is ok to watch certain parts of movies doesn't remove violence in society. It only provides a false sense of security and doesn't present a solution. Solutions should always be the first response to societal problems not denial. That which we resist, persists. Needless to say the creativity and artistic freedom that made classics like "Gone With the Wind" is the same creativity that conceptualized "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". The difference between the two is a matter of taste of genre. This of course is my personal opinion and I understand that others may find a product like Clearplay desirable. My point is that videos are just that. Clearplay still doesn't change the fact that humans are violent or lustful because of their own personal choice, not because they watched a movie with violence or sexuality in it. Look at the Crusades or the Spanish Inquisition, the people of that time didn't have Hi Def or Internet and there was brutality that we rent a DVD to experience.
