Punjab Lok Rahs is a grassroots organization in Pakistan that pushes for social change through the medium of theater plays. For a population that is 5-% illiterate, theater is a medium for education and transformation.
They cover topics aound womens issues like honor killings, domestic violence and forced marraige, while also looking at child labor, gloablization, specific health issues, imperialism, the global oil crisis, and more.
Lok Rahs doesnt use professional actors. Every participant is a volunteer, and the actors are those who suffer from the problems discussed in the plays. With oppresive goverment censorship, and an art schene that has suffered decades of repression, Lok Rahs has worked hard to continue their work under difficult circumstances.
