It's a pretty selfish and weak position when you want others to suffer just to advance your own ambitions. Rush puts his own desires over what's best for the country.
The problem is that chaos gets out of hand very easily and can backfire since it's inherently unpredictable. It can spread to all politicians and both conventions not just the Democrats since trying to whip up the masses invites opposition from all sides.
If Rush wants the credit for trying to orchestrate all of this them he has to take the blame for all the consequences too.

It's ironic that it's Deja Vu all over again with Rush Limbaugh being the anti-Graham Nash.
Graham Nash was trying to end the suffering and heal the wounds after the 68 Democratic Convention and Rush Limbaugh is trying to increase the suffering by attempting to cause chaos at the convention this year.
Nash sang "Won't you please come to chicago for the help that we can bring. We can change the world, rearrange the world, It's dying - to get better"
While Rush says "The dream end is that this keeps up and we have a replay of the 1968 convention with burning cars, fires, protests literal riots and all of that since that's the objective here"
That's a far cry from trying to make things better like Gaham Nash was striving for to the opposite that Rush Limbaugh is seeking to make things worse.
