Do we really deserve to play god? Should we get to make that decision?

  • Troubling and sad. But thanks for posting this, it is quite important to me.

  • playing god has nothing to do with this, we do that daily. this is just hypocrisy at its finest and I'll guarantee the insurance companies are behind it

  • This just makes me angry, i wish i could actually talk to those people and see if they really are as evil as they sound.
  • You know from my encounters with many of them they are as evil as they seem...it is heart breaking but it is true. Have you seen Sicko?
Our medical system is so crooked it is pathetic. I fear that I will get sick and be a victim as I have seen my other older family members They are killing us.....I thankfully am using prevention and my good Integrative doctors advice so I feel like I am on a better road than most.

  • wow. That's terrible. My parents were raised in middle america during the sixties/seventies, and because of their upbringing, are adamantly against marijuana. If they were diagnosed with a painful terminal disease though, I would have no problem going to them and saying "listen, I know you think this is evil, but seriously, this could ease your suffering for what little time you have left on this earth."

I'm not really that shocked to read that someone was denied treatment because of that, but I am disgusted at how easily some doctors could deny someone a second chance at life because of past usage. I look forward to the day when there is a shift in the mindset of those leading our country towards a more helpful solution.

I don't think it would be a hard concept if you approach it like driving. License to sell, License to buy, no one under the age of 18 has access to either, and keep the Pharmaceuticals out of it as the governor of New Mexico has suggested.

No, playing god is hooking people up to machines and keeping them alive longer via modern technology (not trying to say that's a bad thing, just that THAT's "playing god")..

Denying pot smokers transplants is a tactic to oppress people, and until our medical care industry and pharmaceutical industry ceases to be a for-profit deal, it will not change. AND it will continue to be for-profit until we take our country back from the corporations.

  • I feel sorry for the guy, but you don't give organs to people who use health-damaging drugs. The point of donating organs is that you give them to people who are otherwise healthy, and won't abuse them. There are a lot of people who need new livers, so why give it to the guy who uses drugs and got hep. from sharing needles with speed freaks.

The sad thing though is that he had no other option to relieve his pain but marijuana.

This is monsterous. What's the point of the Hippocratic Oath if it gets thrown out due to, behind-the-door, politically oriented decisions?

  • bottom line: people need to realize how much more dangerous alcohol and other substances are for human consumption and drop this whole war on marijuana. its all propaganda and a diversion from whats really poisoning our society. mainstream media has done a great job over the years at turning pot into a big green monster.

explain to me the logic that he cant receive something that is going to help him live because he smokes pot...

its starting to really bug me out how blind and ignorant some people are in this world.

    thank god for this website.

  • bottom line - we need more organ donors - and we need a system whereby donors can specify how their organs are to be used - all herb lovers should band together and watch each other's backs .

  • Didn't David Crosby get a new liver? Does that mean he never did any drugs? Really?!

  • this isnt fair. so his doctor says he can use marijuana for his pain. if anyone should be allowed to smoke to ease their pain it should be those who r in that much pain.and they shouldnt have to jump though hoops cause of it.

  • Yeah! Someone reported on this 1 case, unfortunately there are possibly thousands more on the list.

  • While the general idea of denying someone a transplant because of the use of medical marijuana is upsetting, it seems to potentially be the better choice in this case. The judgment they make is how much of an addictive personality a person has, and how likely they are to fall into bad habits that will end up counter acting the transplant. This man thinks he has Hep. C from his drug using past, and they state the the marijuana he smokes now could lead to a lethal infection in the future if he smokes it just once more post-operation. I say, they need to be mindful and take it case by case. After all they, re-evaluated him, and I bet in the end his own drug history is what bit him in the ass on this one.
