There are rumors of a protest (okay, truth, I'm starting the rumors) scheduled June 30th, 2008 over fuel prices and the apparent inability of our governments to create, produce or implement alternative fuels.

its the oil companies settings these prices not the government. oil companies are reaping record profits on us because of prices they set, not the government. the government has no right to set prices on goods they have no control over.
so far the majority of alternative fuels are not practical enough to use. nor are major corporations really doing jack about it because people still buy gas powered vehicles.
this is the corporate world you should be protesting not the government -
uh the govt owns the oil companies

Oh, I'm not saying it's just the government which needs to hear what the general world population has to say.
Did you read my entire post at StumbleUpon? I'm pretty sure the majority of people not going to work for a day would affect more than just the government.
The thing is, if people get together and think about a protest they just may really think about their own responsibility as well as the responsibility of 'the powers that be'. -
What I'd really like to see is a raise in awareness.
How long can we all just keep on keepin' on?
I've seen reports that we just keep consuming which is much of the issue and while this may in part true, I've seen mentioned in the same reports that, at least in the US, that gas prices aren't really hurting us that much because we can better afford it. While this may be true for the upper class, it certainly isn't for the lower class and really, how much middle class is left...anywhere?
We need better public transit. We need better awareness. We need people to stand up, pay attention and DO something.
I can't afford to keep on keepin' on and I'm not sure how much longer the Earth can before It flips us the proverbial finger.
