The Appalachian Trail is a 2,164 mile foot trail that runs along the Appalachian Mountains through 14 states. The trail stretches from Springer Mountain near Dahlonega in Georgia and runs all the way up to Mt. Kahtadin near Millinocket in Maine. To Thru-Hike the trail would take from 5 to 7 months. As we all know Global Warming is an epidemic that needs to be solved quickly. For generations we have damaged our environment and our atmosphere, and now we are trying to find ways to convert energy so that we can stop this deterioration of our planet.
In August of 2006 the Clinton Foundation Climate Initiative (CCI) was launched. The mission is to fight against climate change in practical, measurable and significant ways. During the NYC Climate Summit, Clinton announced the launch of the Energy Efficiency Building Retrofit Program. This program brings together 10 of the world's largest energy service comapnies, 6 of the world's largest financial institutions, and many of the world's largest cities in an effort to reduce energy consumption. CCI also provides direct assitance to individual cities to facilitate the sharing of best practices, and are working to organize a purchasing consortium to help cities buy energy efficient technologies at lower prices.
Now I know that by this point you are wondering what these two things have to do with one another. I am trying to generate interest in these two subjects to form a charity effort to raise money for donation into the Clinton Foundations Climate Initiative. I want to help my environment and it appears that one way to do this would be to raise money for global warming initiatives such as the CCI. And then I thought what better way to do it than to ask the good people who visit Current.com if they would be willing to donate money to the cause and in return they would get to be entertained by a documentation of a 7 month hike that stretches through 14 states.
Thats right, I know it sounds crazy but I am proposing that a few of my friends and I will take a digital camcorder, outfit ourselves for 7 months of hiking, and then set off on the 2,000+ mile Appalachian trail. We will start at the Northern Trailhead in Maine and hike throught the Appalachians into Georgia. While we are doing this we will document the beauty of the trail and the states it runs through and maybe stop at a few local townships near the trail to survey the local scene.
At this point we have the plan and the cause. The rest is up to you, the people who log on to Current.com. Let me know what you think. If I can generate enough interest then we will begin the effort and entertain the world with footage of our hike through the Appalachian Trail. It's time to make a difference and end Global Warming. Thank you for your time and for your concern for our Earth.
