Just shows that poltical ambitions are more important to some than anything.

Couldn't disagree more JanforGore. I think Wright tossed Obama under the bus (as ivxx said) this past weekend and Obama was clearly furious. It seemed this was as much (if not more) a personal dilemma than a political one.

I give Obama kudos for giving Wright a chance in his landmark speech in Philadelphia. But it was clear Obama was personally offended and enraged by what Wright said about him this weekend..

watch this comment being used here, here and here

If you ran for office would you want your PASTOR or CHURCH to be the reason someone did or did not VOTE for you?

Personally, I think he looks bad by continuing to make this an issue. Why isn't he talking about this war, or climate change, or poverty? He complains about the MSM and their coverage of this and lack of substance and then goes on it to keep this going. And sorry, but he is also obviously distancing himself now because of the comments made by this minister regarding America and he doesn't want to be associated with thinking the same way because he doesn't want to lose votes. It's politics as usual.

Oh Jan...no matter what he does you will find fault. I seem to remember you bashing him pretty hard for "sticking by" Pastor Wright. Spin, spin, spin.

Next she will talk about how Obama supporters are blinded by him and will stick by him no matter what.

Predictable. I wonder what it would take to get a positive comment?

Oh, well. Thanks for your thoughts as always.

    No JanForGore.

Just shows that this Wright guy is as crazy as the weather and apparently just can't keep his emotions under control and believes that he can threaten Obama without consequences or he just doesn't care.

If I were Obama I would hav eused even stronger language. Who the hell does this Wright think he is?
He is useless, he is wrong and he should just shut up.

" Why isn't he talking about this war, or climate change, or poverty?"

He talks about those issues and he didn't and doesn't want to talk about Wright at all.

Our stupid MSM wanted to talk about Wright and force Obama to respond.
And now Wright himself wanted to talk about himself -- again forcing Obama to react.

As much as I respect Obama, I think it is he who threw Wright under the bus. He should have defended him immediately and called out those whose racist opinions fueled the unfortunate fire.

Wright put it best during his interview with Bill Moyer, "Obama is doing what a politician does, and I am doing what a pastor must do."

And while we are being critical of religion, let us not forget the kind of hate the religious leaders of our current president encourage: the damnation of gays and the destruction of Palestine. Wright is a huge improvement upon that ideology!

Excuse me Stardate, but all opinions are welcomed here. NO? Sorry, my opinion stands. He stood by him when it suited him and now he is distancing himself when it suits him. And don't take that as a defense of this minister either. Actually, this whole thing is BS compared to the issues being ignored because of it.

    I always enjoy them.

Let's recap. We're all wrong. And Obama was wrong when he stood by Wright and he was wrong now that he's not. Oh, and Wright was wrong all along. And we're also wrong to even be discussing this because it's a non-issue. And the only right thing is to be the one to point out how wrong everyone else is.

    Like I said...predictable.

It's damage control to assuage the fear Clintonistas have spent the last few weeks perpetuating among the good white voters who fear everything Hannity told them about Wright is true.

The truth is that right now, Hillary needs Dr. Wright to do something horrific, because he has actually proven to be more articulate and erudite than she had so hoped. She thought Dr. Wright was the black version of that twit Pastor John Hagee. And, he's not. What's more, more Americans of any ethnicity share many of Dr. Wright's concerns about the policies this nation has executed and followed to reach this point in our history. America is responsible for more criminality than we ever wish to acknowledge or confess. That, and every now and then, we need these flagrant reminders that we civilly have a whole lot of unfinished business to which we need to attend to actually guarantee civil and human equality for all, regardless of gender, creed, or ethnicity, per the CONSTITUTION!!!

Only time will tell whether or not this final denunciation of Pastor Wright by the Senator is not really a shot in Obama's foot from his own gun. After all, a lot of what Dr. Wright was harping on and on about in these Fixed Noise-twisted loops are issues pertinent to Obama's ascent to the Presidency.

He just alienated his only real constituency. His appeal to moderates and working class people is absolutely GONE. He's irreparably tarnished and nothing is going to change that. Democrats need to either hold their noses and coronate Hillary, or get some action going in the bull pen.

I guess we'll see how much this alienates his base. I'm not sure this is going to do it. In terms of political calculus I think this will really effect the margins. I seem to remember you predictions of demise before. But time will tell.

One thing is for sure...it will freeze super delegates.

He certainly did not just alienate "his only real constituency." It's hard not to drown in constant spin and exaggeration of the main stream media, but my feeling is that the majority of people who have voted for him will see this as an incredibly difficult decision he had to make. I think it might even be refreshing and a sigh of relief for those who have not voted for him.

I think Andrew Sullivan said it well:

Maybe these racial and cultural divides can help us understand how better to move beyond them. Cynics may scoff - and certainly will. They will parse every nuance and try to paint Obama as another cynical, positioning pol. I don't believe it. He has more sincerity and integrity than the vast majority of politicians, more honesty, and more resilience in a very tough spot.

And today, we found that he can fight back, and take a stand, without calculation and in what is clearly a great amount of personal difficulty and political pain. It's what anyone should want in a president.

krag . . . why not do this weeks ago? What changed? Do you really think the Rev. Wright we saw this weekend was so strange to Obama that only now he realizes what a liability he is? Do you really think the electorate is gonna believe that, or are they gonna see this for what it is . . . a politician saving his ass. Come on . . . what would Dr. Wright say?

Look, Obama is runnnig for President based upon his own intellect, not Wright.

I give Obama credit for not abandoning Wright before, whether he agreed or not, Obama allowed the man his position, and apparently (I haven't watched it yet, but) from what some of you say, Wright has thrown Obama under the bus.

This REALLY REALLY speaks to what Obama talked about in Pennsylvania in his speech. Times have changed, the world is a different place. The trouble is, human's thoughts and ideas generally become crystalized at some point in their development, generally by their mid twenties if not sooner - resulting in someone like Wright, who clings to the notions of the past, as though they were alive and pervasive today. Perhaps they are to some degree still, but nothing like it was 40 and more years ago when certainly, Wright's concepts crystalized.

This is a problem with most, but not all in government. It's certainly true with Bush, Cheney, Rumsfield, and Rove, and those ignorant who they hired to blindly aid and abet them. Wonder why Busheney had so many inexperienced people working at the Justice Department? Now you know.

We've got to hand it to Obama, by virtue of who he is and the forces that have brought him here to this point, he more than any other, sees the world and our country with open eyes.

I can't say the same for HIllary - or those here who are sooo committed to her. I don't mean this in a mean way, but your living in the past. Hillary doesn't see things clearly and she has far too much baggage from NAFTA and all the years of politics. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.

I think he talked about what changed in the press conference. It’s right up there at the top of the page…just push play. If you think he’s covering his ass…okay. But if you don’t think some people are going to look at this as a man who was trying to protect someone close to him, and had that person push him too far, well then you are kidding yourself. I know how you would LIKE for people to view this, that is clear. I’m just saying that many of them won’t see it the same way you do. In fact, I think some people were waiting for him to make these comments. As I said…time will tell.

Amazing that Obama is only now waking up to the reality of which you speak, VoyagerFilms. Only now, with the ball at the one yard line, does he realize that these plays he's been running are from an old shitty playbook. Well, to continue the analogy, maybe he'll be lucky and get it across the goal line with a 3-4 dive, but it's just the first quarter and unless he finds a new playbook, he's about to have his ass handed to him in the second half.

I like your word, voyager: "crystalized"
    I agree.

have we forgotten that Obama is a smart man, a moral leader, a unifier, and ultimately someone who wants to lead this country out of the dark ages?

i sure hope the superdelegates dont let this stupid nonsense get the better of their superdelegate judgement.
