Okay, so we all feel like we're safe on the internet. We hide behind an alias, an avatar, and even a false gender. But are we really anonymous? I don't think so -- check out my reasoning.

Why else do you think that they've been asking for immunity? Because they have been giving privileged information away to be used against you and don't want to be sued for it.

well, we're anonymous to the people we want to be anonymous with, such as, people on forums, social networks, etc.
you use way too many jump cuts. -
I don't think it's the ISPs who we especially have to worry about - I think that there are a whole slew of companies who collect our personal data.
So it's not possible to be anonymous on the web and the concept of privacy is pretty much redundant. Maybe we should start from the point of view that once something leaves our computer - everyone knows?

@aschneider: "(anonymously if need be)"?

Not only are there companies that will try to profit from Iwhi there are also hackers and crackers. I use to crack passwords protected sites all the time. Trust me the internet is no where near as secure as you think.

your IP address is recorded every website you visit, if I'm not mistaken

If you truly want to remain anonymous on the internet you need to use an anonymizer. It's the best way to protect yourself online.
