"The Bush administration is undermining the Environmental Protection Agency's ability to determine health dangers of toxic chemicals by letting nonscientists have a bigger — often secret — role, congressional investigators say in a report obtained by The Associated Press.
The administration's decision to give the Defense Department and other agencies an early role in the process adds to years of delay in acting on harmful chemicals and jeopardizes the program's credibility, the Government Accountability Office concluded...
After years of stops and starts, the GAO said, the EPA has yet to determine carcinogen risks for a number of major chemicals...
Environmentalists say these chemicals have been widely found at military bases and Superfund sites and in soil, lakes, streams and groundwater...
Last week, a confidential survey by an advocacy group of EPA scientists showed more than half of the 1,600 respondents worried about political pressure in their work."

That actually started before Clinton left Office, in anticipation of the scourge of the earth to come.

I cured my brand new cast iron skillet yesterday. I figure a good coat of baked on shortening beats Teflon any day of the week. DuPont can go to hell.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if many of those non-scientists who are all of a sudden experts on environmental issues go to work for oil and chemical companies when they leave the government.

Murderers.

halliburton is one of top companies to dump poisons on their employees...my husband died directly as a result of Cheney's company exposing him to asbestos...furthermore, it was the EPA who was pushed by the White House to declare the air to be safe on Sept. 12, 2001...even though official "experts" knew the towers were completely insulated by fire-retardant asbestos...sickening...how can people keep electing these people in to office???

Why I am not surprised? Money and corruption have always circumvented the Laws and The Spirit of The Government that is ruled by the fat lobbying cats.
Should I insert the word, "historically, somewhere here?" -
Bush is a cancer on this nation.

Elligirl, Even if you loved Dupont cast iron is a better choice. It is easier to cook in and you get iron in your diet from using it, much better than teflon. Good choice for your health.

I just heard that 100% of all cancerous tumors had pesticides in them. 100%. I will try to dig up the link for y'all.

Cancer is very profitable for private hospitals and farmaceutical corporations ... no wonder Bush has no top priority defeating its causes ...
-
Bush as infested the entire government with his “agents”. DOJ is a prime example that’s been partially exposed, more still to come.

I am truly of the mind now that these people cannot ever reach the level of morality and consciousness necessary to truly do right by the people of this country. Both of my parents died of cancer due to the lies told to them about the dangers of smoking before that truth came out... and then it was too late. No one should ever have to watch a loved one suffer and die of cancer. The amount of pain and suffering these bastards have caused at all our expense can never even be measured. And now they allow toxins to enter our water and our air that cause tumors in young babies and kill other species all for their profit sheets. How heartless can you be? I have never ever been able to say I hate another human being because I just do not have that capacity in me... until now. My only hope is that there is justice in this world eventually for those who have perpetrated so much death and destruction upon not only us but this planet. God damn them all and their money.

Just two days ago GW had a press conference talking about turning Military bases in Nuclear Power generating plants in order to circumvent the EPA protections.
Since the Military Bases that are not being used haven't had to comply with any of the EPA enforcement actions, the abandoned or closed bases could be easily used.
GW is a total moron for continuing to push the corporate agenda in the face of overwhelming evidence and devastating risks to public health and safety.
It is an oxymoron to both push Homeland Security while at the same time putting our nation at risk from within with looming environmental disaster. -
BTW, there are two types of cancer.
Environmental Cancer that is caused by toxic chemicals and radiation.
Viral Cancer that is cause by viruses that infect the human population. One example is the Human Pamplona virus that causes cervical cancer. -
Nancy Pelosi thinks Bush's end run around the FDA is acceptable - as it is only a difference of opinion. Right Nancy - let's close our eyes and pretend no injustice is occurring so you can continue enabling this psychopath!

Kingston- that is ironic that the Fürer of America is a cancer and not just of the nation.
As far as the article is considered, it is just another point for the "ol'boy scroticular network".
Time for a new operating system...how many more towers need to fall? How many cities neglected and buracrated to death before and after disasters took/take hold till we end this madness?-

Same old bushy... Why do we still post these stories? Oh that's right because nothing has changed. It is amazing that they can continually get away with this and we continually let them.

@Julie_Soller... "cancerous tumors contain pesticides"
please provide the link.
i googled "cancerous tumors contain pesticides" and read through a bunch of hits. none except one from motherjones magazine had any hint that tumors CONTAINED carcinogens, and that one said...
Almost two decades ago, researchers noted that human breast tumors contain higher levels of these toxic chemicals than surrounding cancer-free breast tissue. Like the earlier studies, this research didn't prove that organochlorines cause human breast cancer, but it certainly raised the possibility and cried out for follow-up studies. Still, little attention was paid to the subject for another 15 years.
note: "did not prove...."
