"Albert Hofmann, the pioneering Swiss chemist and advocate of psychedelics who discovered the hallucinogenic properties of LSD, died Tuesday. He was 102.
Hofmann reportedly died of a heart attack at his home in Basel, Switzerland.
Hofmann's most famous discovery happened on April 16, 1943. He was researching the synthesis of a lysergic acid compound, LSD-25, when he inadvertently absorbed a bit through his fingertips. Intrigued by the effect it had on his perception, Hofmann decided further exploration was warranted. Three days later, on April 19, he ingested 250 milligrams of LSD, embarking on the first full-fledged acid trip. That day became known among LSD fans as 'bicycle day' because Hofmann began experiencing the drug's intense effects on his bicycle trip home from the lab."

This is a really sad day because there are few scientists who have contributed so much valuable, objective research on something that's generally considered "too taboo" by society to be researched.
-
He certainly lived a long full life. It's a shame he wasn't able to see a time when his discovery could have the promised theraputic value that it had when it was first researched.
-
wow. bicycle day huh?
-
Well, happy belated bicycle day everyone!

It is clear that LCD users have a shortened life span.
*** EDIT: Yes I was kidding. Progressives need to remember their senses of humor, even when we morn. -
are you serious uroborus8? in the first line of the article it said he was 102!!!!! that seems pretty long to me.

Thanks for the memories Albert, some truly magic times with some truly magic people because of you.
Happy Belated Bicycle Day. -
RIP
-
I love this picture of him. he looks a little like an hallucination.
The invention of LSD also led to one of the most pivotal breakthroughs in genetics as Francis Crick was under the influence when he discovered the double helix...
Cheers Albert! -
Maybe if the LCD users that uroborus8 was talking about chopped up and snorted their Liquid Crystal Displays that might shorten their life span.
But I'm not sure how that applies to Albert Hoffman since I don't think he did that or he wouldn't have lived to 102 -
Thank you...RIP....
-
oh, and I'm pretty sure he didn't ingest 250 milligrams....yeah....that should read micrograms :)
-
LSD sure cut his life short...

I just read Aldous Huxley's novel "Brave New World" and afterwards I did some research into his life and background and found out that he too was an advocate for the use of Psychedelics and knew the inventor.
Aldous was also friends with another famous visionary who wrote "1984".
Check out the book "Brave New World" it will send a chill down your spine and leave you with your jaw on the floor. It is an morality tale that reflects heavily on the corporate ownership of humanity beginning in BritanniAmerica. -
Yes 1984 is way overdue.Perhaps it should have been called 2004.However it's the idea that counts.
May flights of angels bring you to your rest Albert ,for your dreams live on in the dreamers.-

DVR it if you get the chance.-

this is from an article regarding LSD's influence over modern computing:
"Missing from the slate of speakers were, arguably, LSD’s two best-known “problem children,” Microsoft’s Bill Gates and Apple’s Steve Jobs. As John Markoff, author of 'What the Dormouse Said: How the 60s Counterculture Shaped the Personal Computer', told a D.C. audience at a December event hosted by the Copyright Clearance Center, both have acknowledged the formative effect of dropping acid, with Jobs going so far as to call it “one of the two or three most important things that he’d done in his life.”-

This man has changed my life forever. He is a true hero. He may not be loved by all but he is respected by all. This is a sad loss for the world.
-
This man touched the lives of so many people, my life even. I feel great love for someone who was able to do so much for so many. What an amazing life, what an amazing man.

Wasn't he working on finding the "cure for the common cold", when he "discovered" the drug ??
