There are some questions I would like to make to you:
-Can you appreciate SF Bay-Area's Beauty without trashing it?
-What are you doing today to honor individuals and the environment?
-What are you doing today to effective abate pollution?
So you let me know what you think about it and what are your solutions to abate noise pollution here in the City of San Francisco.
Thank You!

how do you appeal to the "pimp my ride" crowd that so loves their cars with muscle and noise and spinners and wings and blings and fins and chrome and carbon dioxide? This is such a difficult challenge. I don't know how to approach this group of people. Maybe there is a way to get them in on the ground floor of the upcoming electric transportation industry so that the challenge to them is to make these new cars look "cool." When looking cool is at the top of priority list I guess that is a starting point. Take that away and they lose interest. We want their interest. "Eclectic Electric Blingcentric"

I was in involved in the automotive racing industry for many years. I happen to love the old cars and even the muscle cars of the sixties and early seventies primarily and although, my interests were in the technology (an engine is really, or can be, a study in fluid dynamics and physics in action), so I have some insight about those "car people".
The first thing is the kids who are into all that "bling" and noisy mufflers are largely suffering from low self-esteem, and see this as a way to improve their self-esteem or status, within their social group - who are also afflicted as they are.
Obviously, having modified cars and noisy exhausts doesn't improve one's self-esteem, but among their group, they feel (and this is substantiated by their peers) they have increased their status - a cheap substitute for self-esteem.
These kids and adults haven't learned the source of real self-esteem or how to achieve it.
The problem needs to be addressed at a young age, like in elementary school. They need to be taught how they can develop it in themselves.
Low self-esteem manifests itself in a wide variety of ways, most of which are misguided to the individual and unfortunate for the society.-

I'm right there with twodee. make the values you want to instill "cool" to the crowd whose actions you wish to change.
What do you want to abate more, noise pollution or environmental pollution?

I'm worried less about the 'Pimp My Ride' crowd and more about the 'Moms Who Apparently Need Suburbans to do Shopping' crowd!
-
great insights Voyager. and yes... NcSchu, i often forget about those Suburban moms in Suburbans. That is a different "trophy" than the pimpers.
-
great voice in this video... i am guessing it is mr. stopnoise.

twodee, It is much easy than you think! We do have engineering capabilities to develop a special acoustic playground just for them. This acoustic playground will have sound proof noise barrier support, air filtering and ventilation to protect the performers and members of the audience. No property around of this Acoustic Theater will suffer any acoustic attacks from the development of this project. The main goal here is to design the project around human health, safety and cleanness.
That will be a fun project for any Architect to develop. If I can do that myself, so You or Them!
I am sure you will see a lots of happy faces around after that and they can enjoy their Monster Shows without abusing the Communities around!
The key here is not accept this confused reality of Today and look for solutions that provides a health, safe and clean environment for humans to live.
Ps: Stephen, I have the pleasure to do both! My abatement project takes all aspects of radiation, gas and acoustic pollution in Industry, Commerce, Transportation, Entertainment Issues and so forth. -
I wish we didn't have to drive, I wish we had better mass transit, I wish we all could afford to live close to work -- but were far from it.
Noise is a tough issue tackle when it comes to exhaust pipes... Perhaps if there were no exhaust? The low whirr of an electric motor is so much more sexier than a loud, constant, flatulent sound effect. For some reason we are hell bent on attracting attention to ourselves these days.
I agree with twodee in the previous post. We do need a movement to popularize clean tech. We love to customize. It's a means of expressing our selves. I am sure there are a few balanced. We're going to need a car show or a competition to slingshot this into the media. As much as journalists want to cover it, they can only cover stories the public is interested in.
We can either wait for auto manufacturers to make affordable and practical electrics, we can wait for politicians to do something or we can do something about it. Let's do something. We don't have to wait for a decent looking, affordable electric to meet federal regulation.
Keep the car you like and get rid of the pipe.
Here's a site that is bent on helping us find out how.

Here's a clip of Wayne Alexander on NBC news an inspiration and owner of machine shop in a small town in Kansas that converts any car into an electric.

twodee, I produced it last night and I had just a couple times to review it. I always have that producer's feeling to ran a better copy. It is the eternal artist's unsatisfied behavior with perfection. Nothing wrong with that! Personally I would like to make it a bit more clean if I had the time to. However the time is limited on both directions on environmental issues and that got to go. Well, If I can pass through the minimal media requirements, I will be happy with it! I have the "take" of the other side of the Bridge going North. Really nice! I might do something with it also!

On the Suburbans: parents transport their kids in those for safety, but just for groceries is crazy, unless your a stock pile type shopping at Costco. If they could afford a small electric car for short trips, I'm sure they would, but with that they will also sacrifice safety. Considering the price of gas, those Suburbans need to go to Costco to fill up the tank anyway.
Let people have the car they want for whatever reason, just make it electric -- make it into an electric. It would probably take much longer to charge up a Suburban, but that just gives the parent more time with their children and less time on the road, where it might crush a Prius.-

Oliver, Thanks for the link and posting! Great Site!

Well my Mom has a Taurus wagon and it can fit just as many people as a mini-van, can transport the tons of plants we buy, and works well for groceries and christmas shopping. It also doesn't have bad millage, and it's built like a tank (she got front ended by a tow truck, ironically, and though the car was totaled the airbag didn't even need to go off) so I never find the argument towards SUVs to be that convincing. Now Ford has stopped making the Taurus wagon, but there are plenty of other options out there.

No doubt! Action should be the force that drives us.

There's no replacement for displacement.
