Newsweek’s Lisa Miller recently wrote on a gay couple’s lawsuit against dating site eHarmony, which prohibits same-sex couples.

It does piss me off a bit, but they (eHarmony) can pretty much do what they want, and accept who they want.
Apparently, eHarmony has one of the most complex processing/ matching systems, which could very well make it it more of a bitch to calibrate...however, every single other site that uses similar methods has had time to "calibrate" themselves.
It would be nice if they were straightforward about their discrimination, though...to-may-toe, to-mah-toe, wakka wakka wakka. They should just straight up admit that they don't agree with the "lifestyle," and move on.
Personally, I hate internet dating sites, so they can suck it either way.
(PS - I kind of wish the "sign" for homosexual male sex was something like two penis icons crossed, like swords on a coat of arms...and maybe a dragon...you know...something more decent/ dignified. Heh.) -
and here i was thinking i was the only one reading queerty :)

tsk haha! "allegedly" unique?! ;D how dumb can you pretend to be? dam the audicity. nothing like "imposing" your views on other people huh? and by threat of legal force. the freakn low lifes.
must gays sue for every g'dam thing they feel entitled to??? I'm sure there have to be *several* other gay dating sites *already* on the market. Perhaps common sense might apply in lieu of a law-suit??? LOL
and yeah, the title reads like "holy" could actually mean something to someone. perhaps little misleading don't you think jcwelker? go figure -
why is america so sue happy and why must everything be examined under the radar of race, sexual orientation, or religion?
eHarmony is a company in which they can determine what product they sell and how to sell it.
Its like people suing McDonalds for making them fat! If you don't like cellulite then stop eating 5000 calories a day, and if you don't like eHarmony go to a different site.-

If eHarmony was a government service, I would be outraged. But it's not. It's a private company offering a customized service. That's kind of like demanding Curves accept male exercisers. The business is just not prepared for that kind of customer.
-
Nothing wrong with it, businesses are in business to provide the services they see fit. If E-harmony wants to be "marriage" oriented then that's their business. Feel like putting your round peg in a square hole, that's your business, just go do it elsewhere.

As said above, I don't see any problem with e-harmony selling their product to who they see fit, if there was enough demand for it on their site im sure they would come up with the supply for gays. I don't see how why they should be sued, another site could easily capatilze off this so in the end it would technically be e-harmony's own finacial loss.
-
gays are so used to being catered to like privileged pets that they've become absolutely pathetic to any respectful orientation to everybody/anybody else different. It's reverse discrimination these days.
it's (already) a COUPLE no less taking this to court. I guess they wanna make this about free-swingin'??? the pervs... I *wish* they'd get counter-sued and lambasted out of court.
I posted another article where a girl signed a written "purity" agreement which she broke apparently (entering a lesbian relationship) with a christian organization serving the disabled no less, and had the audacity to sue 'em... justice was perverted there as well. it's my opinion she should have just respected the difference of values and found another job, but no...it's this sick diseased sense of entitlement.
it's WACK what's happening because of the overly-aggressive "I'll sue your a$$" if you don't bend over when I say so gay community. -
yes, eHarmony may yet be coerced to take another look at the gay "free swingin" community despite their own "corporate" standards; after all, if you're gay everything can be compromised, and nothing absolutely nothing is sacred.
-
As I said before, I agree with most of the above posts.
Don't like the way they do things, don't visit the site.
It's a private company.
echoz - are you baiting, or just being ignorant?
Look up the word "tact," and stop talking about "Them."
One sue-happy gay couple does not represent the entire GBLT population of America. -
quit acting humdrum. "It does piss me off a bit..." heh... It pisses me off quite a bit.
and are all of us supposed to be satisfied with your summation humdrum?
tsk what a pisser... look up ignorant humdrum, and don't be surprised with what you find there.
-
I was only "summarizing" my earlier post, echoz, since it apparently had too many words.
There are emotions and there are thoughts.
I *feel* pissed off that people wallow in their prejudices.
I *know* rationally that, ultimately, I don't give a crap, and they can do what they want. Go Team America.
Sorry if you got all confused. -
I don't know if other fellow homosexuals would agree, but I think eHarmony can sell what they want to whomever they want. It's a private company. Do they hate gay people? You can't really tell. I assume yes, but maybe they don't think going against gay.com and other gay centric dating sites is good to their bottom line.
It's their prerogative, and I completely disagree with this lawsuit. It'd be another thing altogether if a gay person WORKED at eHarmony.com and was fired for that reason. But if their product focuses on straight couples, who cares? That's certainly their right. -
eHarmony has their right for making a non-gay website. It is a private site and they are not forcing you to use it. I am not saying they do not like gays, but if they do not it is up to them; it is their decision, and I am fine with it. It is their decision to not have an option for gay, just like it is yours for being a homo or to use the site.
Additionally, eHarmony had thought of a great defense against them not having a gay option that does not say they do not like gays. Their defense was that it is geared towards marrage. Happily homosexuals can not marry.
I agree with what VSiskos said above. Another example is PlayBoy. You do not see a gay option on PlayBoy because it is for STRAIGHT people. (It is in caps because there is not underline.) Playboy is another private site not geared for a homo.
If gays sue for a site not being "geared-gay", then let's sue for a website not being geared STRAIGHT.
I also do not like gay.-

it's a private business, and they can discriminate against whoever they want. I may not agree but i will fight to the death they're RIGHTS to do it. I mean if this is the case then we should sue gas stations for the NO SHIRT NO SHOES NO SERVICE!!
-
YO , this is e- harmony at its best. I wish people would not discriminate...good people work on merit, and there are only the guidelines we set for ourselves, we cannot dictate what other people do or feel, but we can say that e harmony is run by people, people that obviously dont agree with that lifestyle,so go to poz singles , you will find discrimination, everywhere ..... I have aids and i am open with this, even though i know most people will treat me differently, can i help it ,yes.AM I willing to except that ? NO

I guess query has a different meaning around the offices of eHarmony.
Don't gay sites not allow straight people? So what's the difference?
Anyhoo, I think despite them not having a match for me even though they took my money, they are o.k. and having a straight only site is really their business, just as others who want a gay only site. It's the same thing either way.
-
Nice to see a thread where pretty much everyone agrees, for once.
kaecvtionr
Keeping the prejudiced monkey at bay while making a valid point will only make your point more valid.
I like straight just fine, even if I never have sex with it.
Silly breeder. -
Wow it seems like most people on this thread are in agreement, but some people's self-expression turns things snippy and personal.
Can't we all just get along? Respect each other? Our differences are really quite minor compared to our similarities. Let's not turn Current's comment section into a YouTube flame war.
As a straight, openminded woman, I can tell you from personal experience that e-harmony sucks as a dating site, it really really sucks, or maybe it's not for people like me who LOVE CURRENT. '-)
So everyone who hates e-harmony for whatever reason should just stop using the site and go meet someone out in the real world. Then E-Harm would go out of business. End of story.

kaecvtionr, right, I'll choose being straight again in a few seconds. Not only is it a choice, but it's a simple one. 1, 2, 3, YAY! I'm straight again!
Gosh darn those homosexicals, comin' around here, turning us gay and takin' our jobs!
In case you're curious what my point is, homosexuality is NOT a choice. eHarmony's decision to be heterocentric, IS a choice, but it's a choice they have a right to make as a private company. There are plenty of gay centric and gay friendly dating sites to choose from. These people suing aren't in any pain for eHarmony's choice of catering to heterosexuals. They have a niche that they're comfortable with and make a profit from.
I'm sure they also cater to scared heteros who think that homosexuality's a choice and like being in that safe marriage haven. If they added homosexuals to their dating site, it'd probably rub their clientele the wrong way. They're in the business of making money, and this is what makes them money. -
Like everyone else has said:
It's sad that they are discriminating, but they are a private business out to make money and can do whatever they want.
Not that I agree with it AT ALL. You would think they would want more business by including all kinds of couples. duh.
Humdrum:
"(PS - I kind of wish the "sign" for homosexual male sex was something like two penis icons crossed, like swords on a coat of arms...and maybe a dragon...you know...something more decent/ dignified. Heh.)"
Perfect! You're in charge of that one. ;)-

.....its a "private business". Its a "dating service".
It is not. It is just another big data base for sale to the highest marketing company bidders.
And.....it is also doing the bidding of the Repubs, because it has got us fighting amongst ourselves and calling each other names, on a fairly upper crust web site. And when the people are fighting amongst themselves, the people are helpless victims of the Oligarchy. We are all in this together, folks! -
lol, you retards can find a conspiracy in ANYTHING.
