Good stuff. Nice work Evan. I love it.
-
Ouch! Well done, I suppose.

Shot and fried, scary. I can't believe anyone allowed tasers in hands of cops or anyone else in a developed country. And it's still legal...
-
that was interesting. I think police need these, because otherwise they'd shoot more people who resist.

Wow. Growing up in a community where you see dirty cops everyday, is scary. However, it's even scarier knowing that they have access to a weapon that harsh. This pod did a great job with helping to paint a better picture of just how painful it is to be tased. Well done.

Since law enforcement can use Tasers in every state but New Jersey, I'll make sure to not make any scenes or seem irrational when around them so I don't get tased. Evan, this is by far the craziest thing I have EVER seen on Current. You're a brave, brave man. Maybe a bit crazy, too.
-
I'm so impressed at how courageous/crazy you are.

You know, I think we are becoming soft... we don't spank our children anymore because it abusive, our prisons are messed up (prisoners don't earn anything but a record and, maybe, a free college degree ON OUR DIME... which, honestly, is the only thing that doesn't upset me) Look, good points were made ("I'm not sure that there's any reason to make somebody think that they're going to die") but NOT EVERYONE listens to police officers... and they need someway to regain control, if that involves pain, so be it.... I mean, it's not like one doesn't know there will be consequences if one doesn't follow instructions given by an officer of the law in an average situation.
-
Interesting....wish we could have something that could recipicate the pain received back into the person holding the taser.

What's in a tase?
-
Its electrocutes a perp.
There will always be officers abusing their occupation, and there will always be criminals pushing the line... I would rather a criminal be hurt bc the cop was trying to main control, then the cop have no way to take control of the situation.... surfpup2001, why do you think the pain should be recipicated back to the one holding the taser? Do you think our patrolmen should be weaponless? Taser hurts like hell, obviously, but it doesn't kill as often as bullets. I feel the taser is the lesser of two evils. OUR PATROLMEN SHOULD BE ARMED! As long as we have the right to bare arms, and (potentially) harm other ppl with them (don't get me wrong,I am liberal, but I support gun rights) the police should have appropriate protection for themselves, the criminals and other potential victims... GOOD cops will NOT tase w/out having warned the potential criminal, first of all, and second of all, what are you doing that drives the officer to that point? THATS my question. -
This is the kind of stuff I have come to expect from current: edgy, relevant and brave diffusion of information. Good job!

Wow. What a sacrifice in the name of good journalism. The fact that these weapons are supposed to be used as a less lethal alternative to guns, yet they've (unwittingly?) killed 290 people makes me cringe.
Thanks for the great pod. -
Great Job! I think it is a bad idea to shoot electricity into a healthy human body without knowing prior medical conditions. i would rather be shot in the leg with a real gun and have the scar then tasered and possibly die because of my heart condition. i am no trouble maker but i have a feeling cops cant seriously be the only owners of these guns and even if so they are not all good.

Thanks for all the comments guys. It's great to hear from all of you.
I'd really like to hear what you guys think of the issues being raised by EbahDyke. Some people say that without tasers, cops would be forced to use a gun. What do you think? -
Excuse me, we do not live in a police state.
Therefore, even though cops should be armed they are not some robotic anti-criminal zoid that can make split second decisions with out making mistakes.
Cops are trained yes, but really, they are human with human errors. They grow cocky and self important from the rough career they have chosen. And I for one do not want to be staring down a taser gun just because a cop had a bad day.-

And you shouldn't, I agree with that, but my thing is that, because they are human, not everyone is JUST going to listen to them.... I mean, lets try this... What else could cops use to help maintain control when necessary? I think, since obviously tasers are such a problem, give the cops another option, I would go for that. -
Jesus, it hurt just watching that.
-
crazy, just saw it on tv and you got some brave ballsy for the sake of good information. I would personally never would've found out truly what painful something like this would be. I wonder if cops get tased, before their certification is given. Perhaps you mentioned it in the pod but I was mesmerized the whole time.
-
Im glad you found a pro in this field (and his robust staff guys) and not some creepy masochist off of craigslist. eeek

While I think the pod is exceptionally good, you have to realize why police use tasers: so they can SUBDUE a criminal without having to put a bullet through them. When you mention, "...it seems like a machine that makes you think you're going to die..." while this may seem a little unorthodox, it makes you rethink resisting police the next time an officer tells you to do something. Even though this seems negative, I enjoyed the pod and await another, keep up the good work.
