Mugabe set to win Zimbabwe election by default, even though he lost

How do you win an election that everyone knows you lost? Zimbabwe's President has found the answer to that question.

President Robert Mugabe will win re-election by default if opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai declines to participate in a runoff, the head of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission said today.

Tsvangirai has already claimed victory in the election and the results have showed a strong win for him. Yet, if he fails to partake in the runoff, Mugabe would be declared the winner in an election he clearly lost.

  • Why are the western political leaders not commenting on this dictator continuing to abuse his power, I wonder what economic factors are involved.

  • Britain has been commenting a lot on this situation, it's the U.S. that has been fairly silent.

Look no further than George W. Bush.

  • I think it's fair to say America doesn't really care for Africa. Case in point, Liberia, and Sudan. The US would rather invade an oil rich country rather than stop genocide

  • Why should America care about Africa right now when there is oil to be had in the Middle East?

Mugabe has probably been doing world business leaders a favor by helping cause unrest in the region while they continue to rape the whole of the land of it's wealth and resources while causing the genocide of African people. The people have spoken out against such tyranny and he is using the last of his power in a final grasp for that position. It's scary to think what would happen to Zimbabwe if he regains power, but removing this guy from office is only half the hurdle.

Somewhere in the oval office, some Daniel Plainview-type is wringing his hands drinking a milkshake...
  • The United States under George W. Bush has made such escapades possible. I mean, we're supposed to be setting an example for the World, yet, under W we have: 1) shown the World that the will of the voters really doesn't matter 2) tortune is great! 3) pre-emptive war? eh, that's cool....and how I could go on. Until this bafoon is gone, the World will never take us seriously.

  • How many times has this guy won and lost already?

And haven't we learned from personal experience here in the U.S. that the will of the voters is irrelevant? Thank you Uncle Dubba!
