This is just more proof that the American Government has demonized cannabis because of their inability to regulate it like a prescription drug. Because cannabis can be grown as easily as a vegetable plant in your own backyard and they cannot tax people who choose to grow it. Marijuana has medicinal properties that cannot be capitalized on to make a profit, therefore no one is allowed to have it.
Marijuana IS NOT a drug. It's a natural resource.-

I thought a lot of the medicinal purposes of the drug were exaggerated, but it's interesting that it isn't a carcinogen.

Even if this article is a bit outdated, its interesting to see that marijuana smoke supposedly lacks carcinogens. Just another reason to decriminalize...

Thanks jesus.

bull shit, smoking anything *can* cause cancer, if weed is sprayed with fertilizer you will be smoking that fertilizer. if marijuana was legalized and mass produced there would be cancer related deaths, this study is flawed because it does not take other factors into consideration, i dare them to test the sleazisit of street dealers weed.
however i will not dicredit the idea of legalizing marijuana, i think it should...not for the petty reason of smoking it, but for the vast resources the hemp plant provides, such as paper and combustable oil to name only a few.-

if the reason that the American Government hasnt legalized cannabis is because we can grow it in our backyards then how come i can still buy a tomato in a grocery store. if weed was legalized the government would make a profit, thousands of drug dealers would apply for a business license and start paying taxes on their sales, you could buy name brand hash at wallgreens. there is no sinister government conspiracy over the banning of weed, its just a status quo thing that the old guys on the hill need to get over.

lifestudent, that's just the tip of the iceberg. I recommend that you watch the movie "Grass". It's a documentary on the criminalization/demonization of Marijuana by the Government, and it goes far deeper than taxes...
-
It would be easily regulated if it were legal, unfortunately. The instant you legalize marijuana, companies will be leaping at the chance to turn it into the new cigarette. It's perfect really, you can sell it as the cigarette for the green era, the all natural brand that's good for your health and makes you feel good. Once it's legal and can be conveniently packaged, branded, and marketed, I think you'd see individual growers all but disappear. It's not how our consumer culture works. You just don't see many people growing their own tobacco. Which is a shame, because ultimately that means that if you do legalize marijuana to make it's medicinal properties readily available to the public, you're likely to see those properties diluted or reversed through processes similar to those used by tobacco companies to treat cigarettes.
And I'm sure it would turn up in all sorts of places, kitchens being the first among those.
Of course, none of that has to do with carcinogens in marijuana, or the lack thereof. But it did get me thinking. -
urkovs:
I've seen that movie before, it opened my mind up to why the war on drugs was a complete crock and waste of our resources.
It's also the reason why the industrial prison corporations are flourishing, since we arrest drug users and dealers alike. They also make money of the seized assests from drug houses and vehicles re-selling them at acutions.
The amount we've wasted just to "slow" the drug flow is sickening(hundreds of billions... a year), but what's even worse is how much they make off keeping the non-violent drug users(i.e. pot smokers) in jail.
In addition, we should be treating addicts with medical treatment and counsiling instead of jailing them.-
